John Carter of Mars may be animated

by on Jun.23, 2008, under Movies

The long-coming John Carter of Mars project, based on the series of books by Edgar Rice Burroughs, which has passed through many hands to its current resting place at Disney, may not be live action, but animated. Writer/Director Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall*E) says they haven’t made a decision on the format yet, and won’t “for about a year.” So it looks like John Carter will continue to wait.

    Yay! Disney

I’m glad Disney got it. I was worried that some company without the Disney way of staying close to the original story would get it.

After all, I know that the Mars stories really did have a small impish child as a sidekick in them, even if those nasty editors removed it. And the talking dog Martians with pink fuzzy tails were an essential part of the later books.
