Battle over Watchmen heating up

by on Sep.02, 2008, under Movies

The previously mentioned legal tussle between Fox and Warner Brothers is heating up, with the lawyers of both sides firing volleys. Fox is planning to file an injunction against the movie’s release, schedule for next March, while Warners says Fox silently waited with full knowledge of the production until it was completed to complain – even giving Warners the rights to the title “Watchmen”, which Fox had registered with the MPAA. Interestingly, both sides filed for trial dates after the release date. Update: The trial date has been set for January 6th.

    Books Better Than Movies

As disheartening as this development is, I don’t think the movie will be better than the comics (yes, I know it’s a graphic novel now, but it was originally a 12-issue comic series). Maybe a good movie will introduce Watchmen to the masses, much in the same way that the Lord of the Rings movies did, but the comic version will always be better, as far as I’m concerned.

I enjoyed the Lord of the Rings movies, as well as the adaption of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust. But the books were so much better that the movies were a bit of a letdown. And I think Wathchmen will be more of the same.

    Anyway, that’s my $0.02.
