Rumor control: Radcliffe and Doctor Who, Ford and Blade Runner, Crowe and RoboCop

by on Feb.07, 2012, under Movies

Seems like casting rumors have run rampant lately about various movies. First up, the David Yates-led Doctor Who movie that Steven Moffat insists isn’t happening? Well, apparently Daniel Radcliffe had been associated with the role – which was an absolute surprise to him, and he seemed taken aback that anyone but Matt Smith would be playing the role:

“Matt Smith plays Doctor Who and does a wonderful job,” Radcliffe said. “They don’t need me!”

Interestingly, IGN came up with a list of 15 potential companion replacements for the departing Karen Gillan, which included Radcliffe’s Harry Potter co-star Emma Watson. And when put to a reader vote, she won with 28.22% of the vote, ahead of second place Zooey Deschanel (21.96%) and thid place Anna Friel (10.05%). So let those rumors begin…and the fireworks when Yates feels betrayed that his young female star went to work for “that other” Doctor Who 🙂

Then there was the Harrison Ford returning for the Blade Runner sequel. Despite producer/director Ridley Scott saying Deckard wouldn’t return. Now one of the Alcon Entertainment’s Andrew Kosove, who is producing with Scott and funding it, is absolutely refuting the story that there has been ANY talks with Ford, and didn’t want the rumor to spread further.

Lastly, the rumorsphere had the RoboCop remake title role associated with Russell Crowe, for reasons I cannot fathom, apparently stemming from a tweet from Variety reporter Jeff Sneider. I’m sorry, but I just can’t see this as a role that Russell Crowe would want. I could potentially vault an upcoming actor to the forefront, but I just don’t see an A-lister taking this sort of role (nothing against the movie). Anyways, when asked on Twitter by @DRockDot if there was any truth to it, his response was a pretty definitive no.
