by on May.21, 2013, under Television

This has the potential to be interesting: A man (Keanu Reeves) aboard a “sleeper ship” – a spaceship full of colonists who are kept in suspended animation until arriving at their destination – wakes up due to a malfunction, 90 years to early. Facing the possibility of growing old and dying alone, he decides to wake up a woman (Reese Whitherspoon) to keep him company.

The Weinstein Company picked up Passengers, written by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus), and be directed by Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire) in his first feature film chair, and is being financed by Wayfare Entertainment. TWC reportedly multi-million dollar minimum guarantee and a P&A commitment in the $25 million range for a wide release in 2014, according to Deadline.
