Bits o'Stargate news
posted by Doc on Thursday July 03, @12:48PM
from the compressed-data-packets dept.
Stargate SG-1 Just a couple of Stargate Atlantis tidbits: This is somewhat old news, but exec producer Joseph Mallozzi confirmed that Torri Higginson (Dr. Elizabeth Weir) will not return in Season 5, and it sounds like it may not happen in the future either. In addition, Robert Picardo (Richard Woolsey) took part in a conference call (I was invited but the time was a conflict) to discuss becoming a regular cast member this season, where he said that it was a "bold thing" by the producers to pick a character "who doesn't seem to be necessarily the first choice for a leader." And a further side note: Star Trek: The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton, in which Picardo appeared, is closing September 1st. He said, "...it breaks my heart a little bit to no longer be my own theme park ride." There is hope it may live on somewhere else in some form though.

New cast members for Sarah Connor, Knight Rider
posted by Doc on Tuesday June 17, @01:25PM
from the fresh-blood dept.
Television Some new casting announcements were made today. Paul Campbell (President Roslin's late assistant Billy Keikeya on Battlestar Galactica) will join Knight Rider as the head of Knight Industries research (do I smell a geeky character?); and Leven Rambin (All My Children) will join Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles as Becky, who may provide a love interest (and tension?) for John.

posted by Doc on Monday June 16, @06:31AM
from the finale-grande dept.
Battlestar Galactica An article at the Chicago Tribune (unconfirmed by SFC) says that the series finale for Battlestar Galactica could reach three hours long. Also mentioned are a possible TV movie (or movies - up to three), and that the second part of the final season will be 11 hours (not sure how that figures in to the length of the finale). Still no word on when the rest of the season will air.

Davies steps down from Doctor Who; Moffat take charge
posted by Doc on Tuesday May 20, @02:00PM
from the new-shape-of-the-future dept.
Doctor Who Russell T. Davies, has has been rumored, will step down as producer of Doctor Who, and writer Steven Moffat, who has written some of the best (and scariest) episodes, will take charge. This season he's penned the two parter "Silence In The Library/Forest Of The Dead", which is next up in the U.K. (although there is a week's break this coming weekend due to the Eurovision Song Contest) and stars Alex Kingston, who U.S. viewers might recognize as Dr. Elizabeth Corday on ER. Moffat has been racking up BAFTA awards, having just received another one for the episode "Blink", and also just completed the first screenplay for Tintin (based on a Belgian comic-strip hero), which Steven Spielberg will turn into a Dreamworks film.

Changing roles on Atlantis
posted by Doc on Monday May 19, @07:41AM
from the face-of-change dept.
Stargate SG-1 The upcoming fifth season of Stargate: Atlantis has a few personnel changes in store, although they are mostly expected. Robert Picardo (Richard Woolsey) takes over as the expedition commander, replacing Amanda Tapping (Colonel Samantha Carter), who is concentrating on her upcoming series Sanctuary; Jewel Staite (Dr. Jennifer Keller) has been promoted to regular cast member (she was a "recurring" cast member); Paul McGillion (Dr. Carson Beckett) will apparently be unfrozen at some point during the season for five episodes; Tori Higgenson (Dr. Elizabeth Weir) is definitely not appearing in Season 5; and Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex) is looking at life beyond Stargate: Atlantis after the next season...
