It’s trailer day! Next up, the trailer for Riddick, the final part of the Riddick trilogy (plus an animated feature).
Warning – this is a RED BAND trailer of an R-rated film, with language and violence. You’ll need to click on “continue reading” if you are reading this from the front page.
Riddick debuts September 6th, 2013.
Deadline is reporting that Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica ) is in negotiations to star as Dahl, a Nordic mercenary tracking Riddick (Vin Diesel), in the upcoming Chronicles of Riddick sequel.
Vin Diesel and David Twohy have been trying for over 3 years to get a third movie made and things were moving forward recently, but production had to be halted for a couple months recently to deal with budget issues (sounds really familiar lately…)
It has been a while since we heard anything, but star Vin Diesel believes that there WILL be two more sequels of the Riddick franchise (started with Pitch Black, and continued in The Chronicles of Riddick). According to him, writer/director David Twohy is writing the two scripts, and they have to decide whether they will film back-to-back.
David Twohy, who wrote and directed Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick), believes more Riddick could happen, according to a post on his web site. It would likely be an independent film, and thus be on a much smaller budget – but since Pitch Black was filmed for only $22 million, it’s possible.
The Chronicles of Riddick DVD will be released Tuesday, but I was fortunate to get an advanced review copy. I had not seen the movie during its theatrical release, so I didn’t know what to expect. I was relatively pleased.
Next Tuesday, November 16th, Universal releases the Unrated Director’s Cut of the Vin Diesel vehicle The Chronicles of Riddick, the semi-sequel to Pitch Black (also available in Unrated Director’s Cut). This version includes 10 (or 15, depending on if you read the press release or the jacket) of footage, plus additional deleted scenes, Toombs’ Chase Log, and even the first level of the XBox game! Check out the DVD trailer (Windows Media: 128k 300k 700k), and the Escape from Cermatoria Flash game just released! I hope to have a review this weekend.
David Twohy, who wrote and directed The Chronicles of Riddick which opens this week, is also writing a spinoff TV movie for the SCI FI Channel focusing on the character of Kyra, who also appeared in the first film, Pitch Black – the girl who masqueraded as a boy. This movie would fill in the 5 years between the theatrical films. The Kyra spinoff would also serve as a pilot for a potential series.
