James Gunn reinstated by Disney for Guardians of the Galaxy 3

by on Mar.15, 2019, under Movies

This was a jaw-dropping moment today…Disney did an about-face and reinstated James Gunn as director for Guardians of the Galaxy 3, after having fired him back in July when old inappropriate tweets regarding rape and pedophilia of his surfaced. Gunn was immediately apologetic over his “poor judgement” at bad humor.

Today, Gunn was grateful for Disney’s letting him back in:

The reaction in social media seems relatively positive, but bears close monitoring.

Star Wars Episode VIII release pushed back to December 15th, 2017

by on Jan.20, 2016, under Movies

Perhaps not very surprising, after the huge success at the box office for Star Wars: The Force Awakens with the December holiday debut (the first time a Star Wars film opened outside the traditional “Summer Blockbuster” period), Disney and Lucasfilm pushed the next film in the saga story to open on December 15th, 2017, rather than the previously scheduled May 26th, 2017 date, presumably to once again capture the rich holiday box office it gained last time. This also provides some more room for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 to shine, which was originally only going to have three weeks before its sibling studio’s Jedi Juggernaut, opening on May 5th.

However, it does put it up directly against Dreamworks’ Ready Player One, and just 10 days later Avatar 2, which could make for a very interesting box office…

Melissa McCarthy to be a Ghostbuster; Chris Pratt to be Indiana Jones?

by on Jan.27, 2015, under Movies

We’ve got one casting confirmed, and one hot rumor…

The first lead actress to take on the gender-flipping Ghostbusters remake is Melissa McCarthy, who worked with director Kevin Feig in Bridesmaids and The Heat. Bridesmaids cast mate Kristin Wiig is reportedly also in negotiations as one of the team, as is current Saturday Night Live cast members Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

In the hot rumors side, Disney has wanted to relaunch Indiana Jones since obtaining the franchise from Paramount, and even with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull it appeared that there were plans to hand over the whip and fedora to a younger actor in Shia LeBeouf until Harrison Ford snatched his hat back at the end (and probably for the better…)

Now hey may have found are more apt successor, perhaps to replace Harrison Ford as Indy himself, in Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt, according to Deadline. It’s all very early, but it appears the studio is looking at Pratt to lead the franchise, but it will have to wait as Starlord needs to finish The Magnificent Seven for MGM/Sony and of course the obligatory Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
