With BBC America debuting the 4th series of Primeval on the same day as in the UK, 5 “prequel videos” to the 4th series (yes, it is technically the 4th…the first two were short and combined in to one DVD release, with the 3rd series billed as Volume 2 – confused me as well). We had already heard that ITV series Primeval was being rescued by added income from some international channels, although initially they said there would be two more series. Now it appears that they are at least for now planning one series of 13 episodes, but they still have some problems to solve – like getting some of the characters back from the past, and how to deal with cast departures as well (which isn’t unusual here). 3rd series star Jason Flemyng is committed elsewhere, but will return for a few episodes. Update: Correction that Primeval is an ITV not BBC series…

This is an interesting review – I had not watched the ITV production Primeval at all at this point. I intended to when it was on BBC America, filling the void of Doctor Who and Torchwood at the time. Unfortunately various things got in the way and it fell off the radar. So, what to do when I have Primeval Volume Two in hand, without having seen the previous episodes? Throw it in the DVD player and hope I can follow what is going on…
