Another Time Machine??
by Doc on Jan.26, 2001, under Movies
We’ve been treated to the
original (with Rod Taylor and Yvette Mimieux), tortured by the
1978 TV movie (come on, John Beck – Moonpie in Rollerball – as a smart guy? :^), and got a chuckle out of seeing H.G. in his own contraption chasing Jack the Ripper (Time After Time), and countless other loosely based titles. Do we need another, when the first was so good?
IGN Filmforce is reporting that a remake is in the works, scripted by John Logan (Gladiator and the upcoming Trek movie) with Guy Pierce (Rules of Engagement) in the lead role. Although it sounds like this may keep true to the original story, what are the odds that it can meet or surpass the original?

Buffy to ABC or Fox? “No way” says SMG
by Doc on Jan.24, 2001, under Television
Reuters has a report out that Sarah Michelle Geller is threatening to leave the show if it moves off of the WB. Seems the producers (under Fox Television) want more fees, and the WB may not be willing to pay, so ABC and Fox are named as possible destinations.
Problem is, Sarah is under contract beyond the current season already (although it doesn’t say exactly how long).

It Came from Bob’s Basement – the Prop Man in Print
by Doc on Jan.19, 2001, under General News
CNN.com is running an article about the prop-master himself, Bob Burns, and his new book, [asin=0811825728]It Came from Bob’s Basement: Exploring the Science Fiction and Monster Movie Archive of Bob Burns[/asin]. The article is a bit off (it says Rod Serling, not Rod Taylor, stepped into The Time Machine). Some may remember Bob from earlier days on the Sci-Fi Channel as a regular on Sci-Fi Buzz, a news-ish program, wher ehe would often show off his collection…

LordOfTheRings.net now has a trailer available for Net viewing. The shots look great, but its difficult to see when its so small…maybe I can convince the wife to get a babysitter and go see Thirteen Days, where the full trailer is being shown…
Tidbits: Apes, Demons, Trek and more
by Doc on Jan.17, 2001, under General News
Gleaned from the headlines at Sci-Fi Wire: Charlton Heston will make a cameo as an ape in the Planet of the Apes remake; Dimension Films is developing a film version of Ellision’s classic Outer Limits episode, Demon With a Glass Hand, with Ellison doing the script and David Twohy (Pitch Black) directing; A fifth Trek series could be ready for the Fall, but the impending strike could delay it; and testing for Digital-to-Film transfers for Episode II are underway…

Hulk to join Spidey on film
by Doc on Jan.12, 2001, under Movies
An article at Iwon.com is stating that The Incredible Hulk will make a live-action return – this time on film. Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) is in early discussions with Universal to direct, with a planned release in 2003. This version is set in Berkeley, CA, and is expected to be effects driven with a big budget. Gale Anne Hurd (the Terminator movies, Aliens, The Abyss, Armageddon and more) will produce.
Rendezvous With Rama movie in the works
by Doc on Jan.11, 2001, under Movies
Found this today: The Official Rendevous With Rama Web Site. Seems Morgan Freeman’s production company, Revelations Entertainment, along with Arthur C. Clarke himself and director David Fincher (Fight Club, Alien 3, Seven) are putting it together for 2003.
