Elwes to join X-Files

Cary Elwes, best known for his roles in The Princess Bride and Robin Hood: Men in Tights, is now taking a more serious turn by joining The X-Files as FBI assistant director Brad Follmer and the ex-boyfriend of Special Agent Monica Reyes, played by Annabeth Gish, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Matrix, Superman & Batman, Earthsea, and more

Haven’t done one of these in a while. It’s all gleaned from Sci-Fi Wire, so head ther for the details: Matrix Reloaded likely won’t be released until 2003; Warner Bros. is developing a script to join Superman and Batman in a movie; Philippa Boyens (Lord of the Rings) is working on Ursula K. LeGuin’s Earthsea series for Sci-Fi; and Sweden bans anyone younger than 15 from seeing A.I.

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Three new pilots from Tribune

Tribune Entertainment has announced the greem light for three genre pilots, according to Variety (via Sci-Fi Wire). They include MechWarriors, based on the BattleTech games and produced by guys at Foundation Imaging (remember Hypernauts?), Pendragon, about the establishment of Camelot, and Beyond with James Van Praagh, a psychic “reality” show that sounds vaguely like a Crossing Over with… clone…

Poul Anderson passes away at 74

Just caught this on Sci-Fi Wire. Poul Anderson passed away at his home yesterday (July 31st) of prostrate cancer. He was 74.

In 1997, he received the Grandmaster Award from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, and just recently won the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for Best Novel of the Year for [asin=0812580281]Genesis[/asin].
