Caught this on Coming Attractions: New Line Cinema has an open casting call for 16-22 year olds who can look like young versions of Austin Powers, Dr. Evil, Number Two, and Basil Exposition for Austin Powers 3: Goldmember, on October 20th at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. See the Austin Powers 3 page at Coming Attractions for more details.
Dark Horse Comics is set to reprint all of the original Star Wars comics originally published by Marvel. It will cover all 107 regular issues and 3 annuals, bound into four paperbacks – black and white though. I wish I knew where my original issues went, along with my trading cards… :^(
Seems Sigourney Weaver has been talking to Ridley Scott again. In an interview for Channel 4 (UK) and reported by the BBC, Weaver said they have been talking about a 5th Alien movie. Now, this has been often rumored before, and then denied. I think this is the first time a principle is on record…
According to Variety, both ABC and Fox are dueling over rights to a Time Tunnel remake in development at Regency Television and 20th Century Fox Television. Rand Ravich (The Astronaut’s Wife) is set to write and Todd Holland (Malcolm in the Middle) will direct the pilot. Kevin Burns (various Hollywood documentaries, including The Fantasy Worlds of Irwin Allen and Lost in Space Forever), Jon Jashni (Anna and the King) and Sheila Allen (Irwin Allen’s widow) will exec produce.
Well, as of Saturday, we’ll actually have made it one full year!!! I think I’ll celebrate with a nice big drink… :^) Feel free to drop a line on how things are going, what you think could improve, etc. I’ll be setting up a new “Ask Sci-Fi Storm” section, where people can ask questions about things (reasonable questions, at least) like “Does anyone remember this show?” and stuff.
djryan writes “Octocon, the Irish National Science Fiction Convention unveiled a draft schedule on its official Web site. The con, featuring guest of honor Anne McCaffrey, takes place Oct. 13-14 in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland.”
Data is trickling in. According to our friends at Bureau42, Larry Niven has made a deal with James Cameron (Titanic, the Terminator movies) for a Ringworld movie. Coming Attractions has details as well. Apparently Niven himself announced it at Albacon this weekend, saying the deal came at 12:30AM Saturday morning…I hope I manage to finish the Encyclopedia of Known Space by then…
Update 10/10: It looks like this was false. Ain’t It Cool News says Niven’s agent is denying it.
djryan writes “A new trailer for Babylon 5: Legend of the Rangers has been posted on SciFi Channel’s Website and it looks pretty impressive. Take a look at http://www.scifi.com/b5rangers/trailer/ to see it in its Quicktime glory.” Alas, it is only available in QuickTime, and my work system can’t play that yet…the official site has been redesigned too…check it out.
