Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban — casting game

Corgi writes “The ‘casting game’ must be one of fandom’s favourite indoor sports, and
Harry Potter fandom is no exception, as the Internet almost froths with
speculation about who will portray the characters introduced in the next
HP adaptation (currently in preproduction).
One group of fans aren’t just sitting down and speculating — they’re
trying to do something about it. With a focal website
at http://www.SFF.net/people/Corgi/JasonCarter/,
fans of Babylon 5 and Harry Potter both are writing letters to the
casting director and staff of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
politely asking that Jason Carter be cast in the role of Sirius Black.” Read More for the full details. Not sure I can picture it – I think they need someone more imposing…

Jason Carter is a native Briton who has been working on stage,
screen and TV for over twenty years. He’s best known around the world
for his role as the Ranger, Marcus Cole, in the classic SF series Babylon
5, but has also played villains and ‘whiners’ in guest appearances on TV
since then. He’s also done several feature films, and recieved glowing
reviews from Hollywood.com.
Jason also looks much like what most fans have stated excitedly they
imagine Sirius to look like:

With his Northern-English black hair, unusual green eyes, and strong cheekbones,
Jason is the very image of the mysterious fugitive whom Harry first sees
on his uncle’s television.
Responses to the campaign have been enthusiastic and international. Letters
have been sent to Alfonso Cuaron, Chris Columbus, David Heyman and of course,
Jina Jay, from the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Finland, Australia and the Philippines.
It’s been mentioned — and polled — on B5TV.com,
and off-handedly on the premiere Harry Potter newssite,
The Leaky Cauldron. There’s
even a Slovakian Babylon 5
website supporting the campaign!
Naturally, the decision will be up to Ms Jay — but asking politely never
hurt anyone. The fannish world will find out some time after the new year, when
principal photography begins on the new feature in Scotland.
