Irwin Allen Lost in Space, Time Tunnel on DVD this Oct/Nov
by Doc on Mar.20, 2003, under General News
Dave Berry writes “This past week has been filled with very positive news about
`Lost in Space’ and Irwin Allen fandom. The Boston Globe on
Monday reported that fans can expect to see `Lost in Space’
return to the airways on the SciFi Channel in the near future” Read More for the full (long!) story…
…”Going forward, Sci Fi will still offer daytime reruns of shows
such as ”Lost in Space,” ”The X-Files,” and ”Mystery Science
Theater 3000.” During prime time, the channel offers original
episodes of ”Stargate SG-1” (its top-rated show starring Richard
Dean Anderson), as well as acquired reality series such as ”Beyond
Belief: Fact or Fiction,” horror flicks, and action movies
like ”Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
Kevin Burns and Jon Jashni (Synthesis Entertainment) have been quiet
since last year. A run of dismal failures ABC rejected the Time
Tunnel pilot, NBC canceled the Lost in Space 2 hour Movie of the
Week ‘Journey Home’ after Jonathan Harris passed away in November, and
Fox shutting down production on ‘Firefly’ after the per episode budget
passed the two million dollar mark. SciFi Channel dropped Lost In
Space from their fare in 1999, fans both here and abroad hope this
is the long awaited revival to see their favorite shows back on the
air, as well as offered for sale on DVD.
Ray Dutczak’s http://lismemories.com web site posted this message
from producer Kevin Burns this morning :
“The release date of Season One “Lost In Space”, and the “Time
Tunnel” on DVD is currently set for October/November of this year. I
am helping Fox with gathering “extras” and photos, etc. Bill Mumy is
on board, too. Budget is tight, so project isn’t quite as
comprehensive as we would have liked, but anything that puts the
episodes on DVD is exciting. If Season One (Lost in Space) sells
well (20,000 units or more) Fox will do Season Two, etc.”
“Jon (Jashni) and I are currently negotiating with Fox to
produce a BIG budget theatrical remake of “Voyage to the Bottom of
the Sea.” We’re going to be developing the script this summer if
all goes well. The NBC Lost in Space TV movie-of-the-week is still
in “limbo” following Jonathan’s (Harris) death, but we’re not giving
up on it.”
Regards,
Kevin Burns
No further details are available yet on the contents of the first
DVD release we can only hope Fox Home Entertainment handles the
distribution and not force the fans to join Columbia House Clubs to
purchase the DVDs. Many fans currently are in still in limbo after
joining the Columbia House Club to obtain the release of `Land of
the Giants’ on DVD some got letters saying the LOTG videos and
DVDs were not available others are watching them trickle in at the
rate of one per month, others have had great difficulty leaving the
Columbia House Club subscription program after they had been
notified that the LOTG material was no longer available.
After news of the bad experiences that Irwin Allen fans had
encountered with Columbia House reached Kevin Burns last year, he
had expressed interest in talking with Fox Video to try and have them
release the IA DVD shows instead of Columbia House.
L.I.S.A. (Lost in Space Australia) members and all the Irwin Allen
fans in the UK and New Zealand will now have to hold
their breath to see if Fox will produce a PAL version of the DVDs for
their regions.
When Fox Home Video in Australia released the entire LIS series on
PAL video there during the 1990’s, and also the New Line Cinema
“Lost In Space” movie, as well as the “Lost In Space
Forever”
Kevin Burns’ produced documentary, they had a runaway success
with huge sales which topped the Fox video releases for that time
period.
The first season DVD of Lost in Space would include both the unaired
pilot `No Place to Hide’ along with the following 29 episodes:
