New Supercar documentary on DVD this summer

FULL BOOST VERTICAL! is a documentary on the making of Gerry Anderson’s TV series SUPERCAR. The black and white television series followed the exploits of Mike Mercury and the Black Rock Labs team and was produced by A. P. Films for Britain’s Associated Television in 1960. Supercar is considered the first of the true Supermarionation shows by Gerry Anderson.
Utilizing Producer Anderson’s SUPERMARIONATION technique, the show was produced entirely in miniature using puppets. Featuring special effects by future Academy Award? winner Derek Meddings, SUPERCAR ran in syndication in the United States in 1961. The show laid the groundwork for Anderson’s later productions which include Thunderbirds, Stingray, Fireball XL5, Captain Scarlet, UFO and Space: 1999.
FULL BOOST VERTICAL! features interviews on the making of the show with Graydon Gould (the voice of Supercar Pilot Mike Mercury), Directors David Elliott, Des Saunders, Bill Harris, Camera Operator Julien Lugrin, Art Director Bob Bell, Original Company Director Arthur Provis, Puppeteer Mary Turner, Director of Photography John Read, Writers Martin and Hugh Woodhouse, Model Maker Bill James and more.
Mary Turner, David Elliott, Roger Woodburn, and John Read revisit the A.P. Films studio to share memories of working on the show. Viewers will see how the studio appeared when Supercar was produced in a brand new 3D Computer Graphic walkthrough.

A live action feature film version of THUNDERBIRDS produced by Working Title films for Universal Studios opens in U.S. theaters July 30th.
Gerry Anderson is currently in production on a new CGI version of CAPTAIN SCARLET slated for release in 2005.”
