SCI FI announces official season start
by Doc on May.16, 2005, under Television
July 15th will mark the return of the SCI FI Channel’s big three – Stargate: SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica. One cast change I hadn’t heard before: Jason Momoa (Baywatch, North Shore) is joining the cast of Atlantis – no details, but IMDB lists him as “Ronan Dex”. Also in the announcement is the new reality show Master Blasters starting July 27th, which sounds like a rocket-specific version of Scrap Heap/Junkyard Wars, and the return of Ghost Hunters and Tripping the Rift (With Carmen Electra replacing Gina Gershon as Six).

“Star Flops” article at Forbes.com
by Doc on May.11, 2005, under General News
A writer at Forbes.com made me aware of an article on when Lucas creates a stinker: Every farm boy can’t be a Jedi, and every Star Wars creation can’t be a winner. With just a few days left before the big premiere of the last chapter in George Lucas?s opus, Forbes.com takes a trip into the recesses of a galaxy far far away to find the things that failed. Not all the movies have been masterpieces of modern cinema, but compared with 1978’s “Star Wars Holiday Special? –which features an off-key Carrie Fisher singing to a band of cloaked Wookies– well, they?re practically Citizen Kane. (And yes, we have video of the special!)

by Doc on May.07, 2005, under General News
While not my normal fare for this site, I had the opportunity to see a pre-release review copy of th Michael Keaton movie White Noise, a supernatural thriller based on the paranormal science of Electronic Voice Phenomenon, or EVP. White Noise goes on sale May 17th. You can also visit the official site, and even send someone your own creepy EVP message. Updated 5/10: Another official web site with some good use of Flash is here.

by Doc on May.06, 2005, under Television
Farscape twosome Claudia Black and Ben Browder talk about their roles on the upcoming season of Stargate SG-1, but thusfar they have not had a scene together. Black is reprising her role of Vala for the first six episodes, making Dr. Jackson’s life “a misery.” Browder is joining the regular cast as a new member of SG-1, Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell. The new season will begin in July on the SCI FI Channel.
How does a Lightsaber work?
by Doc on May.05, 2005, under Movies
A humorous article on howstuffworks gets in to How Lightsabers Work. Not really the technobabble article I was expecting, but more of a “Owner’s Manual” approach. Technically, I envisioned them as a glowing variation of Larry Niven’s variable sword.
