Sigmund and the Sea Monsters out on DVD

by on Sep.20, 2005, under General News

If you’re my age, you remember pretty much anything made by Sid and Marty Krofft with a special kind of fondness. Forget the hokiness, the bad special effects, the talking hats – you can’t help become a child again when these are on. The latest to get the DVD treatment is Sigmund and the Sea Monsters: The Complete First Season from 1973, starring Johnny Whitaker (Family Affair) and Mark Wickes (Sister Act) and several salads gone wrong – err, “sea monsters”. Read More for part of the press release, and I should have a review soon. Also, I’ve reorganized the Sci-Fi TV Store to create a “Krofft Shows” section and moved “Land of the Lost” there.

Who Ever Heard Of A Friendly Sea Monster?

Los Angeles- Who ever heard of a friendly sea monster? Rhino Home Video has and on September 13th they are bringing to DVD for the first time ever SIGMUND AND THE SEA MONSTERS: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON. This is not your typical monster story; this is the tale of, Sigmund Ooze, who is simply unable to scare. He can?t seem to find his place in the Ooze family with his bad-mannered brothers, Slurp and Blurp, always making fun of poor Sigmund. Join Sigmund Ooze as he runs away from his family?s cave at Dead Man?s Point, leaving behind his brothers as well as his selfish and inconsiderate parents, and heads into the real world. Sigmund is not homeless for long; he soon befriends two human brothers named Johnny and Scott Stuart (Johnny Whitaker and Scott Kolden) who keep Sigmund in their backyard clubhouse. The Stuart boys do their best to hide Sigmund from Slurp and Blurp, who take every chance they can to steal Sigmund back. Premiering in 1973, SIGMUND AND THE SEA MONSTERS became one of Sid and Marty Krofft?s most memorable TV hits, and the adventures continue to roll as Sigmund avoids going back to his unlikable and unfriendly home.

Another classic collection of TV favorites from the well-known Krofft brothers hits retail on September 13th. This DVD contains each of the 17 episodes from the first season of SIGMUND. Each installment is a chain of adventures as Sigmund grows up, avoiding the torment of his real brothers, and explores life as a human boy. Sid and Marty Krofft entertain audiences again and again with their quirky view of family, friends, and growing up.
