I can see this will be a busy Who news week. The BBC has announced the next companion for the Doctor, and it will be Freema Agyeman, who just appeared in “Army of Ghosts” as Adeola, but she won’t be playing that character. Instead, she will play Martha Jones, but that’s all we know right now. Freema will join in Series 3, and will not appear in this year’s Christmas special (there is a surprise being saved for that). It’s not the first time that an actor appeared on the show before becoming a different regular character – Nicholas Courtney and Lalla Ward appeared as different characters before their well-known personas – and even Colin Baker played the Doctor after appearing in one episode in a previous season.
Today is the U.S. release of Doctor Who: The Complete First Series, and I was able to get a copy for review. For a long-standing Whovian like myself, this was very eagerly awaited. And all I can say is: Buy it. Now. If you haven’t seen it, you don’t know what you are missing. Read More if you want to know more about it. And lets hope we don’t have to wait so long for Series 2.
