Star Trek returns, September 15, 2007

The digitally-remastered version of the original Star Trek series returns for the 2007-2008 season with the nationwide premiere of “The Galileo Seven” during the weekend of September 15. The episode, first aired in 1967, features Spock in command of the tiny Shuttlecraft Galileo, crashed on a dangerous alien planet.

Although most Star Trek episodes use the famous transporter room to “beam” the crew to alien planets, “The Galileo Seven” was the first episode produced to feature a shuttlecraft. It is the titular shuttlecraft Galileo that becomes lost in this episode, forcing the logical Mr. Spock to take an all-too-human gamble to save the lives of his crew. The highly-anticipated visual effects in this episode feature the Galileo in flight, as well as Murasaki 312, a dangerous space storm, in which the Galileo becomes hopelessly lost.

The remastered episode features all-new digital transfers of the original Star Trek film elements, revealing the show’s spectacular color and the clasically futuristic designs with unprecedented clarity. Also featured are newly-recorded remasterings of the show’s main title theme, composed by Alexander Courage, as well as state-of-the-art CGI renderings of spaceships and other visual effects created by CBS Digital.

“The Galileo Seven” stars William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock, with DeForest Kelley as Dr. McCoy. The original episode was first aired in January, 1967. “The Galileo Seven” was directed by Robert Gist and written by Oliver Crawford and S. Bar-David from a story by Oliver Crawford. Star Trek was created by Gene Roddenberry. Star Trek remastered is distributed in nationwide syndication by CBS Paramount Television.
