Caprica has been canceled

by on Oct.27, 2010, under Television

Rumors surrounded the possibility after the announcement of a new prequel series and the lack of a pickup order when other shows got theirs, but Syfy has now officially canceled Caprica. Remaining episodes are being pulled from the schedule, and will be aired in the first quarter of 2011. It’s too bad, as I think the show was just starting to hit stride.

Mark Stern, the executive VP for original programming, said in a statement, “”We appreciate all the support the fans have shown for ‘Caprica’ and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series. Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, ‘Caprica’ has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.”

Out on Twitter, stars Allessandra Torresani and Sasha Ruiz showed their appreciation of fans. Allessandra said, “Its a very sad day….time for mama cylon to go cry a river! Its ok I have you lil cylons to make me smile! I love my fans! You make me smile! XXX,” while Sasha said, “My sincere gratitude to the fans. It was a joy to be a part of this quality show. Thank you for letting us into your home and imagination. It was a wonderful experience that I will always cherish. I’ll miss Sam and the world we created. Thanks again for following and supporting.”

Figured it would get canned. 🙁 I mean it was slow at the start, but it was starting to get me interested in it and the whole BSG series.

I saw this coming, but it’s still disappointing. I loved BSG, but found Caprica a little hard to get into. But I agree, it was starting to pick up some interesting momentum this season.
