Being Human renewed for a second season

by on Mar.17, 2011, under Television

With 4 episodes still to air, Syfy has already ordered up a second season of their version of Being Human. Pulling in an average 1.8 million viewers each episode and being the most-watched scripted series premiere since Battlestar Galactica, President of Original Content Mark Stern said, “Being Human has proven to be a winner for Syfy on all fronts. Using the original format as inspiration, showrunners/writers Jeremy Carver and Anna Fricke – along with a superlative team of writers, cast, and production – have created an amazing, compelling series in its own right. We can’t wait to watch Aidan, Josh and Sally continue their struggle to be human in the second season!”

Being Human is also Syfy’s first female-skewed series, with women comprising of 53% of the audience (Sam Witwer and Sam Huntington can take pride in that!). No word on number of episodes at this point, but it seems likely that it will be another 13 episodes.

(I’m still waiting for a full press release and will update when it arrives, but I didn’t want to wait any longer.)

Actor Michael Gough, 1916-2011

by on Mar.17, 2011, under Obituaries

I am just learning that British actor Michael Gough, perhaps best known in the U.S. as Alfred in the Burton/Schumacher Batman movies, and is also known to Doctor Who fans as “The Celestial Toymaker” as well as Councillor Hedin in “Arc Of Infinity”, passed away at the age of 94. He most recently was the voice of the Dodo Bird in Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland.

Mars Needs Moms torpedoes Yellow Submarine

by on Mar.15, 2011, under Movies

With the extremely poor performance of Robert Zemeckis’ Mars Needs Moms movie, which only took in $6.9 million 5th place finish in its opening weekend against a reported $150 million budget, it appears that Disney has fired the final torpedo in the salvo that will sink Zemeckis’ planned remake of the Beatles’ classic Yellow Submarine, cutting the project loose even after the cast and crew were hired. Disney has reportedly also been disappointed with Zemeckis’ A Christmas Carol as well as motion capture in general (which was used for Moms and was planned for Submarine) which contributed to the decision. However, Deadline has an inside source that says the decision was made some time ago. Zemeckis is free to find another studio should he choose to shop it around.

Merlin preview: “Queen of Hearts”

by on Mar.14, 2011, under Television

In the next sneak peek clip of the all-new episode of Merlin, Morgana is prompted down an eerie hallway by whispers into a room where Morgause appears. Morgana describes a dream that she fears is instead a nightmare of Gwen sitting next to Arthur on the throne and being named queen. Morgause tells her it must be a prophecy because Morgana has a true gift and it shouldn’t be ignored. Morgana says it can’t possibly become true because Gwen is simply a servant. Morgause wants to make it look like she is helping when really she is seeking to stir drama and claims Morgana must destroy Gwen no matter her relationship with Arthur. Watch the clip and tune in on Friday at 10/9c on Syfy to see if Morgana decides to carry out Morgause’s demand or if she decides to halt making her own drastic action.

And don’t forget that tonight there is a new Being Human followed by an interesting Stargate Universe!

Possible Hobbit film titles revealed?

by on Mar.14, 2011, under Movies

TheOneRing revealed a couple weeks ago (but flew under my radar until now) what is likely (but not confirmed) as the full titles of the upcoming two films based on The Hobbit – which is good, as it is awkward writing articles with the words “the two The Hobbit films”…whereas The Lord Of The Rings films were fortunate to have had names already to draw from, The Hobbit did not. So one of the titles will take it’s name from the subtitle of the novel, There and Back Again, while the other will adopt An Expected Journey (or possibly The Unexpected Journey – I personally prefer “An”.)
