by on Apr.23, 2012, under Conventions, Fun Stuff, Movies, Television

Fancy the idea of taking up arms against some of your favorite heroes from SF film and television? Or fancy a blaster fight with a squad of Stormtroopers led by General Motti? (Hey, at least that last one should be easy…we know how well Stormtroopers shoot!)

Well, you might have your chance at Comicpalooza, in Houston May 25-27!

“The next best thing to being a sci-fi or action hero has to be shooting a sci-fi or action hero with a gun. Or maybe being shot by one,” says John Simons, founder and Chairman of Comicpalooza, the Texas International Comic Con. At least that’s the premise that led to the Badass Celebrity Smackdown, in which fans attending Comicpalooza May 25-27 will get their chance to pit themselves against stars of some of the biggest sci-fi and action franchises in Hollywood while helping US veterans at the same time.

And down to one…Lawrence choice as Hunger Games sequel director

by on Apr.19, 2012, under Movies

Shortly after I posted that the Hunger Games sequel search was down to two, apparently they made their choice – and it is Francis Lawrence, who previously directed Water for Elephants, I Am Legend and Constantine. It is expect he will receive an offer today.

Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games, is slated for a November 2013 release. It is expected the third book, Mockingjay, will be filmed at the same time.

Hunger Games director list down to two?

by on Apr.19, 2012, under Movies

Hearing from various sources that the necessarily quick search for a replacement director for Gary Ross – who decided not to continue with the sequel for The Hunger Games – has been narrowed down to two choices, neither of which have a lot of top-line directing titles under their belts but what they have were well known: Bennett Miller, who was nominated for an Oscar for Capote and more recently directed Moneyball; and Francis Lawrence, who most recently scored with Water for Elephants but also genre films I Am Legend and Constantine.

Of the two, Lawrence would seem to make sense given his experience in a post-apocalyptic-like setting of I Am Legend, and 2 genre films to zero for Miller.

Eliza Dushku will be She-Hulk in Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

by on Apr.18, 2012, under Television

Eliza Dushku will take on the role of She-Hulk in the upcoming series, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.…but before your chants of “Rawr!” go overboard, this is an animated series, and she is only providing her voice! Although, I can say, the preview image of She-Hulk is Rawr-worthy…in addition, Adrian Pasdar (Heroes), who voices Iron Man for Ultimate Spider-Man, says that his Iron Man will also make a guest appearance.
