by Doc on Jul.31, 2014, under Television
You watched it. You tweeted about it. You don’t know why, but you did.
Syfy’s pop culture sensation Sharknado 2: The Second One absolutely devoured the world during last night’s July 30 premiere, becoming the channel’s most watched Original Movie ever with 3.9 million total viewers and 1.6 million Adults 18-49. The movie also averaged 1.8 million Adults 25-54.
Sharknado 2 delivered One Billion (yes, with a B) estimated impressions for Sharknado Twitter conversations.
At one point, Sharknado 2 held all top 10 trending topics in the United States. There were more mentions of Sharknado on Twitter than #MileyCyrus on the day of MTV’s 2013 VMAs, #kimye on Kim and Kanye’s wedding day and #transformers4, #thelegomovie, #godzillamovie and #22jumpstreet on each movie’s worldwide premiere day
Sharknado 2 is the most social movie on TV ever and was more social than any episode of Game Of Thrones, The Bachelorette or Survivor.
In addition to the social media storm, Sharknado 2 soared 183 percent among total viewers, 190 percent among Adults 18-49 and 185 percent among Adults 25-54, compared to the first Sharknado movie premiere on July 11, 2013.
Sharknado 2 beat numerous broadcast programs in prime including CBS’s Extant, Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance and ABC’s Motive among Adults 18-49.
Syfy will unleash Sharknado 2 again Saturday, August 2 at 7PM and Sunday, August 3 at 9PM (ET/PT).

Fox, Mark McGrath, Kari Wuhrer and Judah Friedlander, with cameos including Kelly Osbourne, Andy Dick, Perez Hilton, Judd Hirsch, Robert Klein, Kurt Angle, Salt N’ Pepa’s Pepa (Sandra Denton), Biz Markie, Matt Lauer, Al Roker, Kelly Ripa, Michael Strahan, Richard Kind, Kelly Oxford, Billy Ray Cyrus, Wil Wheaton and Robert Hays.

Warner Bros creates “Harry Potter Global Franchise Development” team
by Doc on Jul.30, 2014, under Books, Movies
Three years removed from the last film and five from the last book, but hot on the heals of a theme park expansion, Warner Bros is hoping to keep Harry Potter fresh and in the minds of people who spend money. They just created the “Harry Potter Global Franchise Development” (HPGFD) which will oversee the relationship with author and HP creator J.K. Rowling, with Josh Berger, currently a Managing Director and the President of Warner UK, Ireland and Spain, at the helm.
What does it mean? For the most part, the group will manage the strategic vision for the brand across all the ancillary business units, including merchandise, online (web sites like Pottermore), theme parks, etc. And who’s to say they won’t also be asking for some more material to work with from J.K.? A new film is already on the way (Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them) along with two more theme park lands (Universal Studios Hollywood and Japan), and a stage play opening in London next year. And the fans want more Harry (perhaps to Daniel Radcliffe’s chagrin), so I think we’ll someday see at least more words written about the Boy Who Lived.

by Doc on Jul.29, 2014, under Television
Following the social media bonanza that was Sharknado, the sequel, dubbed Sharknado 2: The Second One airs tomorrow on Syfy at 9/8c, and if you’ll be watching, be it part fan, part curiousity, or even part drinking game, you’ll be able to catch the teaser for the upcoming Syfy zombie apocalypse series Z Nation!
Produced by Sharknado producer The Asylum (and the source of many of Syfy’s popular B-movies), Z Nation is an action-horror series about the epic struggle to save humanity after a zombie apocalypse. The cast also includes Michael Welch (The Twilight trilogy), Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show), Anastasia Baranova (The Darkness II), Russel Hodgkingson (Big Fish) and Keith Allan (Rise of the Zombies).
Z Nation starts three years after the zombie virus has gutted the country, when a team of everyday heroes must transport the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood. Although the antibodies he carries are the world’s last, best hope for a vaccine, he hides a dark secret that threatens them all. With humankind’s survival at stake, the ragtag band embarks on a journey of survival across three thousand miles of rusted-out post-apocalyptic America.
