Blake’s 7 rights acquired by Doctor Who, The Last of Us director for TV reboot

If I’m coming out from beyond the veil, you know it’s for something I’m passionate about…and Blake’s 7 is one of them. I have long been a proponent of a reboot of the show, given it’s storyline potential. Well, today we got news from Deadline that a reboot is in the works again.

Emmy-nominated and BAFTA winner Peter Hoar, who has recently directed episodes of The Last of Us and Doctor Who as well as working as an executive producer on various shows, has opened up independent production house Multitude Productions with partner Matthew Bouch (A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder), and acquired the rights to Blake’s 7 from the estate of Terry Nation, among other properties.

I am, as usual, cautiously optimistic. It’s still early on, but it looks like Hoar is planning to direct a pilot and shop it around, with the hopes of BBC snatching it up, along with an American streamer and other potential partners like RTL.

A cult classic created by Terry Nation (famed creator of the Daleks from Doctor Who), Blake’s 7 ran for four series from 1978-1981. It followed Roj Blake (Gareth Thomas) and several other convicted criminals of the oppressive Federation, who manage to escape aboard an advanced alien ship dubbed The Liberator, and form a resistance group to oppose and disrupt the corrupt Federation while pursued by the evil Servalan (Jacqueline Pearce).
