AMC passes on Line of Sight

Almost a year after it gave a pilot order for Line of Sight, a science fiction drama that was to star The Walking Dead‘s Governor David Morrissey, the network decided to pass on making it a series, according to Deadline.
We’re still not sure what made the show science fiction exactly – presumably it would be unveiled as they story went, but we’d watch Morrissey again. I might also add that he played eponymous “Next Doctor” in the 2008 Christmas episode of Doctor Who.
Gravity wins big at Oscars but not Best Picture

The genre curse lives on – it seemed as if Gravity had a decent shot at breaking the the curse that no science fiction or fantasy film has ever won the Academy Award for Best Picture, especially after director Alfonso Cuarón won Best Director (but don’t tell him we’re calling Gravity science fiction – he doesn’t think it is) – and it’s somewhat rare for Best Director and Best Picture to not go to the same film. But it wasn’t to be, as the Best Picture nod went to 12 Years A Slave, which itself was a likely winner for either award as well. But it did come away with 6 statues, including Best Director, Original Score, Film Editing, Cinematography, Sound Editing, and Visual Effects.
