Mike Fleming over at Deadline is reporting that Disney has given screenwriter and Lost executive producer Damon Lindelof a seven-figure paycheck to work on a script, about which the only things we know are that it is a large-scale SF picture, and that it has a working title of 1952, but the latter could mean anything. Lindelof is in high demand: Cowboys and Aliens is getting tons of great press and doesn’t even open for more than a month, he rescued the Ridley Scott Alien prequel plot and made it a standalone film, and he’s expected to run full bore for the Star Trek sequel before working full time on this project.

But this isn’t just a movie…they’ve used the buzzword “multiplatform”. So expect games and web tie-ins at least.

In the next sneak peek clip of an all-new episode of Sanctuary, Magnus awakens from a deep slumber to fear. She quickly fights her surroundings where she’s half submerged in a tank of water with gadgets and tech gizmos monitoring her. The decision is made to up her meds to send her back into her slumber. However, did she really awaken to this scientific lab, or was that all a nightmare as well. Watch the clip and decide for yourself on the next episode airing Monday at 10/9c only on Syfy!

Defiance, and open world shooter MMO developed by Trion Worlds (who also created [asin=B002I0HIC8]RIFT[/asin]), is currently getting some behind-closed-doors demos at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, but the game itself wasn’t the big news – the big news is that the game will also tie in simultaneously with a TV series on Syfy.

Set on a future Earth, Defiance introduces players and viewers to a world where humans and aliens live together on a planet transformed by decades of conflict. The game combines the intense action of a “AAA” console shooter, with the persistence, scale, and customization of an MMO, while its TV counterpart weaves the rich tapestry of the world into a series with the scope, characters, and drama of a classic sci-fi epic. Because they exist in a single universe, the show and the game will influence each other and evolve together over time, with actions in both mediums driving the overall story of Defiance.

On the television side, the Defiance series, to be produced by Universal Cable Productions, will be penned by Rockne S. O’Bannon, a legendary sci-fi TV writer best-known for his work on Warehouse 13, Alien Nation, seaQuest DSV, and Farscape.

The game will be available for the PC, Xbox 360®, and PlayStation® 3. Release dates are not yet available, but more information will be released at the official web site when available.

Following up on something I tweeted earlier today, BBC executive Sam Hodges broke the news on Twitter and Steven Moffat appeared to confirm that the BBC has commissioned 14 more episodes of Doctor Who, with Matt Smith returning as the Doctor. Since no other details have been released, I’m assuming the 14 episodes includes this year’s Christmas special.

OK, this may only be for a game…but this looks awesome! Check out the cinematic introduction for the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO game from BioWare and LucasArts below! No release date has yet been set.

I’m glad Hollywood Treasure is back on – Joe keeps finding things from my childhood! Last week he had Robbie the Robot and a full-size Terminator endoskeleton. This Wednesday night, we see the actual DeLorean from Back To The Future 3!!! Also on Wednesday, catch the new show Haunted Collector, which reminds me a bit of the old Friday the 13th: The Series, except with real people and no scary uncle who made a deal with the devil…this week, they investigate an interesting music box, that seems to have it’s own voice…Haunted Collector airs at 9/8c, followed by Hollywood Treasure at 10/9c.

If you’ve been waiting to actually SEE former Doctor David Tennant in his role of late night horror TV host/vampire hunter Peter Vincent in the upcoming Fright Night remake, now you can. See the trailer that debuted during the MTV Movie Awards below…the new version stars Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) as Charlie Brewster, who suspects new neighbor Jerry Dandrige (Colin Farrell) isn’t as nice guy as he seems – and is a vampire. Alphas was created by comic book movie writer Zak Penn (X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, The Incredible Hulk, The Avengers) and Michael Karnow, directed by Jack Bender (Lost), and executively produced by Ira Steven Behr (The 4400, Deep Space Nine, Dark Angel). The series is a procedural thriller about ordinary people with extraordinary mental and physical abilities that operate within a special branch of the Department of Defense and are tasked to investigate cases committed by others with Alpha abilities.

Emmy® winner and Academy Award nominee David Strathairn (Temple Grandin/Good Night, and Good Luck) headlines a cast of both familiar and new faces including Warren Christie (October Road), Malik Yoba (New York Undercover), Laura Mennell (Watchmen), Ryan Cartwright (Bones) and Azita Ghanizada (Castle). Callum Keith Rennie (Battlestar Galactica/24) guest stars in the pilot.

A new trailer has been released today for the upcoming Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a remake of sorts of the classic Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, which chronicles how an ape named Caesar became intelligent – and leads a revolution. See it below…Rise of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Rupert Wyatt and stars James Franco, Brian Cox, Frieda Pinto, John Lithgow, Tom Felton, David Hewlett, and Andy Serkis as Caesar, and will be released in the U.S. on August 5th.
