Sanctuary preview: “Carentan”

by on Jun.02, 2011, under Television

In the next sneak peek clip of an all-new episode of Sanctuary, Magnus is confronted and tries to negotiate to find out more intelligence on her mission. She thinks the hazmat warnings of radiation are just a hoax, otherwise the military would be properly suited for such a concern. The conversation quickly turns into her wanting to help but it’s claimed that the task at hand is even above her. Be sure to watch the clip and tune in on Monday at 10/9c only on Syfy to see if Magnus is able to move on through the highly secured military checkpoint and if she can get the answers she’s looking for regarding the whereabouts of her colleague Ravi.

Syfy renews Ghost Hunters for 8th season

by on Jun.01, 2011, under Television

Season 7 hasn’t finished airing yet, but Syfy has already announced an 8th season for Ghost Hunters, already it’s longest running original reality series, ordering up 20 new episodes for airing in 2012.

On Wednesday nights at 9pm for nearly seven years, Ghost Hunters has set the standard for paranormal series, offering viewers spine-tingling cases from the files of TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) – led by Rhode Island plumbers Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson.

To date, season seven (premiered February 2010) has attracted 1.1 million Adults 25-54 and 1 million Adults 18-49.

The next episode of Ghost Hunters airs at a special night and time: Wednesday, June 1 @ 8pm and features an hour-long case in Hawaii. Guest Josh Gates (Destination Truth) joins the team as they investigate paranormal claims at the Pacific Aviation Museum in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The museum’s original plane hangars stand as they did on the fateful morning of December 7, 1941, and still bear the bullet holes and bomb craters from the attacks that precipitated U.S. involvement in World War II. Visitors and employees alike have reported several startling experiences at the museum, suggesting that the site’s history has made it a hub for paranormal activity.

Ghost Hunters is produced in association with Craig Piligian’s Pilgrim Films and Television (Dirty Jobs, The Ultimate Fighter, My Fair Wedding). Piligian and Thomas Thayer, along with Rob Katz and Alan David, serve as executive producers.

Syfy in talks to pick up mini-series addition for The Event?

by on Jun.01, 2011, under Television

It seems that there are rumblings that Syfy might be in talks with its NBC Universal sibling, Universal Media Studios, about a possible pick up of The Event for a mini-series – and if it does well, another season. Although not unheard of, it does happen – but typically cable networks can’t absorb the cost of the broadcast program, and it already wasn’t making the ratings numbers to draw enough advertising for the broadcast network.

Syfy’s chief Twit-umm, Twitterer – er, SVP of Syfy Digital, Craig Engler, just tweeted: “To answer some questions I’ve been getting, at this time we have no plans to pick up The Event.

How Lucas can make his not-yet-made live action show “not suck”

by on May.31, 2011, under Movies, Television

So, I got a kick today, as a week ago I posted an article pointing out that Lucas never said he had 50 episodes “in the can” (i.e. completed and ready to air) like a lot of the news outlets seemed to think. Yet late yesterday the New York Post posted an article still saying the episodes were in the can, that was reiterated by The Hollywood Reporter today – both articles were later corrected. Deadline also followed the Post’s article, but I only saw it after the corrections to the other two so I don’t know if they had likewise made the same error. Anyways, I get to feel smug for a few minutes about my being correct a week before some of the major industry rags. 🙂

But in the meantime, E! Online has a fun article about “Five Ways to Keep New Star Wars TV Series From Sucking”. Although honestly, “No Jar Jar” should be higher up on the list. And we could easily expand it to 10 ways…or 20 I’m sure.

Daleks will “take a rest”, according to Moffat

by on May.31, 2011, under General News

Hoping to see the Daleks soon? Don’t plan on it this series. Current man-in-charge Steven Moffat said in an interview for the Radio Times that he’s ordered them put to rest for a while. “There’s a problem with the Daleks,” Moffat said. “They are the most famous of the Doctor’s adversaries and the most frequent, which means they are the most reliably defeatable enemies in the universe.”

by on May.30, 2011, under Movies

Back in March two possible titles for the two upcoming The Hobbit films had possibly been learned: An Unexpected Journey and There and Back Again (the last being the book’s subtitle). We now know these titles are official, and in that order. We also now know the release dates: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will debut on December 14th, 2012, with The Hobbit: There and Back Again following on December 13th, 2013.

At last, it will make them easier to talk about…

Grease, Babylon 5 actor Jeff Conaway has passed away

by on May.27, 2011, under Obituaries

Actor Jeff Conaway, who starred in the movie Grease as well as the TV series Taxi and Babylon 5, passed away this morning after his family removed life support yesterday. Conaway, who had long been suffering from drug and alcohol addiction, was placed in a medically induced coma after being found unconscious on May 11th, suffering from pneumonia and sepsis. Early reports blamed a drug overdose, but this was later refuted, although reports still say that his painkiller addiction (exacerbated by both old and more recent injuries) may have contributed to him not getting medical help soon enough.

He was 60 years old.

Bobby Wheeler/Kenickie/Zack Allan, you will be missed.

50 hours of live action Star Wars TV series already filmed? Not so fast…

by on May.25, 2011, under Television

So, remember that live action Star Wars series that George Lucas announced many moons ago, where he was planning 100 episodes but planned to have 50 or 60 in the can before bringing it to air? And then the project got shelved due to it being too expensive? Well, there has been lots of reports based on an interview George did for Attack Of The Show as part of the Star Tours re-opening and Star Wars 3D announcements that he said they have 50 hours already filmed – but it seemed very odd to me that they could have 50 hours filmed and then say that they need to figure out a way to make it cheaper. So I watched the interview, and he never actually says that it has been filmed – only that they “have 50 hours,” and that they are trying to figure out a way to make it “economically feasible to shoot the show.” That sounds to me like they’ve got scripts and perhaps some pre-production work done, but no actual filming.

Watch and decide for yourself:
