Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 3D in 2012
by Doc on Mar.03, 2011, under Movies
Just what I always wanted – Jar Jar’s tongue lashing out in 3D…according to Deadline, a joint press release has been put out by Lucasfilm and Twentieth Century Fox that a 3D release of The Phantom Menace will hit theaters on February 10th, 2012. No word on whether there will be further revisions to the movie…
Final episode of The Cape to be screened online only?
by Doc on Mar.02, 2011, under Television
So, if NBC cutting the episode order to 10 wasn’t enough to convince you that The Cape will not return next season, perhaps this will: The final episode, which did not air as originally expected on Monday, will probably never be shown on TV, but rather appear as an online exclusive.
It was thought that they’d close out the show with a double episode, when NBC pushed back The Event and extra week. But that would have meant a two-week layoff for Chuck (which seems to always be uncomfortably close to the bubble), and when the time came there was Chuck, and only one episode of The Cape. NBC says they are “prepping an exclusive episode for online fans”…
Help save the Lars Homestead
by Doc on Mar.02, 2011, under Movies
Always dreamed of traveling to Tatooine and taking in the sites, like Mos Eisley, Toshi Station, and of course the place that Luke Skywalker grew up, the Lars Homestead? Well, you can (turmoil in Tunisia notwithstanding). However, some of the locations have fallen into disrepair, including the homestead exterior, and a group would like to fix that. They estimate they need about $10,000 to fix up the exterior, and they are almost 79% of the way there. They have some great photos as well so you can see the various locations, not just of Tatooine, but the Cairo of Raiders Of The Lost Ark and others.
What of the Lars interior, you ask? It’s still there, and in decent condition – it just happens to be about 150 miles away from the exterior, and is actively used as a hotel – one without power, apparently…
Stargate Universe preview: “Deliverance”
by Doc on Mar.02, 2011, under Television
In the anticipated return of an all-new episode of Stargate Universe, Dr. Rush checks on the team as they try to run a bypass through a section of the Destiny to boost power. Slow and steady seemed to be the right road until they pushed a little too far and the plan backfires. The team tries to assure Rush that it’s just going to take more time. Watch the clip and tune in on Monday at 10/9c to find out if the team can make any progress on the Destiny as the final 10 episodes kick off and they reach the climax of their epic adventure!
Don’t forget – if Stargate Universe gets great ratings in its return (and I mean GREAT – like premiere-level great) through the last 10 episodes, there there is still the possibility that there will be some sort of future for the show…

Being Human preview: “Children Shouldn’t Play with Undead Things”, plus recap
by Doc on Mar.01, 2011, under Television
In the next Being Human, Aidan and Sally try to prep Josh for a hot date. They try to make sure all the standard steps are covered; he looks good, half a deodorant stick used, breath checked. Aidan suspects he’s still feeling like his alter self and “wolfy” but Sally encourages Josh to embrace the wolf, and that it might help his chances at some action. However, once Josh reaches the climax of his date, his charm isn’t exactly winning Nora over. Watch the clip and tune in on Monday at 9/8c on Syfy to see if he can seal the deal and if the wolf really shows up.
Update: I have added a recap clip for “I See Your True Colors… And That’s Why I Hate You” as well.

by Doc on Mar.01, 2011, under Television
In the next sneak peek clip of the all-new episode of Merlin, Merlin finds himself viewing a fight only to realize those doing the punching are looking for money. The collectors decide to chase after Merlin as well. He must flee the scene and catch his breath, but not for too long as he’s quickly found and must make a decision to stay and face the beating or leap from the castle walls and mount a horse to go help Arthur once again. Watch the clip and tune in on Friday at 10/9c on Syfy to see if Merlin is able to escape the pursuit.

Spoof of the Volkswagen Darth Vader Super Bowl ad
by Doc on Feb.28, 2011, under Fun Stuff

Quicky Oscar recap
by Doc on Feb.28, 2011, under Awards, Movies
Just a quick recap of any remotely genre related awards gained at last night’s Oscar festivities, beyond the periodic Hugh Jackman/Wolverine references: Inception was the big genre winner, taking Cinematography, Visual Effects, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing; Queen Amidala – or more accurately, Natalie Portman – took home the Best Actress award for her role in Black Swan; Toy Story 3 won Best Animated Feature, as well as Randy Newman taking the Best Original Music, for the TS3 song, “We Belong Together” (and gave on of the best acceptance speeches of the night); Alice In Wonderland won for Art Direction and Costume Design; and Wolfman won for Makeup (it didn’t have much competition). Tron: Legacy went home with nothing, having only had one nomination in Sound Editing – inexplicably not nominated for at least Visual Effects. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 also received none, but was the subject of an interesting musical montage thanks to AutoTune…
Side note: Star Wars: The Clone Wars fans may have heard a familiar voice. Tom Kane, who narrates the beginning of each episode, was the announcer.

Being Human recap and preview: “I See Your True Colors…And That’s Why I Hate You”
by Doc on Feb.23, 2011, under Television
In the next sneak peek clip of the all-new episode of Being Human, Josh sits down with his Dad to discuss the current state of the family by bringing humor to the table, but screams for his father to not psychoanalyze him and just simply talk. In the heat of the moment the doorbell rings and Josh steps away from the chaos to answer it only to find Aidan at his doorstep. In an attempt to convince Josh that he can help, Josh tries to explain to his Mom that Aidan is just passing though and must be moving along. Unfortunately, for Josh, his roommate is invited to dinner instead. Watch the clip and tune in on Monday at 9/8c on Syfy to see if Aidan can really come to the rescue or if he just makes it all worse.
And below that, check out the recap clip of last week’s “It Takes Two to Make a Thing Go Wrong”.
