Elijah Wood WILL be in The Hobbit
by Doc on Jan.08, 2011, under Movies
There were lots of articles that took speculation and reports that Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom were in talks to reprise their respective Lord Of The Rings role in The Hobbit as fact that they were returning, but I did apparently miss this report that Wood’s reps have confirmed the actor is confirmed “to star”:

David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman gets shelved
by Doc on Jan.08, 2011, under Comics, Television
All the major networks appear to have passed up David E. Kelley’s spec script for a modern take on Wonder Woman, and it appears unlikely anyone else will pick it up due to the expected costs. Deadline has the best analysis as to why each likely passed on it. ABC’s parent Disney now owns Marvel, while Wonder Woman is a DC Comics product, which is owned by Warner Bros. – but CW, jointly owned by CBS and WB, couldn’t afford it. It isn’t dead yet though, but in cold storage – Kelley could thaw it out a later time when the situation improves.
More Torchwood news: the title is now Torchwood: Miracle Day
by Doc on Jan.07, 2011, under Television
Torchwood is a moving target today, but at Television Critics Association press conference a short time ago, Russell T. Davies revealed some details about the upcoming new season of Torchwood – including a new title. It is now Torchwood: Miracle Day, and on that day everyone stops dying. “βNo one quite dies,β according to Davies. “The Earth relies on people dying. Itβs a crisis affecting everyone in the world.β Hmm…sounds like there could be a little Captain Jack in all of us?
Torchwood: The New World starts July 1st…or not
by Doc on Jan.07, 2011, under Television
BBC One and Starz have jointly announced that the premiere for Torchwood: The New World will take place on both channels on July 1st, 2011 at 9PM (I’m guessing for both channels in their respective time zones).
Update: The BBC is now denying the start date…stay tuned…
Warner Bros. will fund, distribute The Hobbit
by Doc on Jan.06, 2011, under Movies
It’s been a while since we heard news, but things are again moving forward for The Hobbit, with Warner Bros. taking over world wide theatrical and video distribution of both parts, while MGM retains international television licensing. In the process, it is reported that WB will foot the bill for the production – which is estimated in the $500 million range.
This is hopefully the last hurdle as MGM escapes bankruptcy and the long-dwelling epic production can get moving. Hopefully we’ll hear some final casting announcements (Ian McKellan still isn’t confirmed, and I’m hearing rumors of others returning although how I’m not sure) and production start can be firmly scheduled for the Spring.

AMC‘s Havins, Dollhouse‘s Lachman join Torchwood
by Doc on Jan.05, 2011, under Television
The Torchwood team is getting bigger. Michael Ausiello broke the news that Alex Havins (All My Children) is joining the cast as a regular, playing Ester Katusi, a CIA Watch Analyst, and will reportedly have a crush on Rex, played by Mekhi Phifer. In addition, Dichen Lachman (Sierra, Dollhouse) will guest on the season premiere, although her role hasn’t been specified, other than working for the CIA.
Seems the CIA is going to be involved a lot…
David Tennant to wed Georgia Moffett, daughter of 5th Doctor
by Doc on Jan.04, 2011, under Television
10th Doctor David Tennant and girlfriend actress Georgia Moffett are engaged to to be married, with a wedding planned for New Years Day 2012. The two met on the set of Doctor Who during Tennant’s third year, where Moffatt played the titular and ironic role of “The Doctor’s Daughter”, also known as Jenny. Moffett is in fact the daughter of Peter Davison, the 5th Doctor, with whom Tennant appeared in the 2007 Children In Need special short episode, “Timecrash”. Davison has already given his blessing, along with Moffett’s mother, actress Sandra Dickinson (best known in the genre perhaps as Trillian from The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy mini-series). Davison and Dickinson split in 1994.
I found the headline from this article a bit humorous though: “Harry Potter’ Star David Tennant Engaged to Georgia Moffett” As popular as Harry is, I’m not really sure Tennant’s popularity really stems from the limited screen time he had in one movie… π
