An apology for Battlefield Earth

Although he may not really be responsible, screenwriter J.D. Shapiro (Robin Hood: Men In Tights) is apologizing for the “suckiest movie ever” – that is, Battlefield Earth. “It wasn’t as I intended — promise,” he says. “No one sets out to make a train wreck. Actually, comparing it to a train wreck isn’t really fair to train wrecks, because people actually want to watch those.” Read the whole article – it’s quite amusing. Now, can I get those brain cells back, please?

Harry Potter grand opening leaked on Universal Orlando web site (updated)

It was brief and has since been changed, but the Grand Opening date for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure, which was supposed to be announced tomorrow, March 25th, was leaked on the park’s own web site as being June 18th. However, it appears that it will “soft open” on May 28th as USO has already started offering packages with arrivals that start on that date. Update 3/25: And its official…see the press release below.

The Prisoner DVD review

AMC’s re-invention of The Prisoner finds its way onto DVD tomorrow, so I spent some time this weekend with the DVD set to not only see how it looks, but also if it might make more sense on a second viewing…after all, it probably took several viewings of the original to figure out some of it, especially the final episode which is still debated to this day…

New Doctor Who soon – catch the trailer (updated)

Doctor Who returns to the U.S. on BBC America on April 17th at 9pm ET, featuring new Doctor Matt Smith and his new companion, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan). To celebrate, BBC America is going to air an extended version of the episode with limited commercial interruption. Can’t wait? Dr. Horrible to return as movie according to Harris

Neil Patrick Harris, although seeming both noncommittal and certain, believes that Dr. Horrible will return as a full-length movie, which has been worked on by the Whedon crew for a while now but no specifics.
Avatar on Blu-ray and DVD April 22nd

Filming on The Hobbit to begin in July according to Gandalf

Ian McKellan (Gandalf) has posted on his official site that filming on The Hobbit will commence this July (earlier reports said June) and casting has started in several cities. Director Guillermo del Toro is also currently living in Wellington, near the Jacksons’ studio.
