Sci-Fi Storm

Today is Sci-Fi Storm’s 5th anniversary. There have been a number of times where I didn’t think it was worth doing – and times where it was. Perhaps we’re not where I’d like us to be, but we’re still here, and thats a plus.

Just after the numbers came in declaring Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit tops at the box office taking in $16.1 million, disaster struck when the warehouse containing sets and props from all of the previous features was destroyed in a fire. Also lost were items from their first feature-length release, Chicken Run. “Today was supposed to be a day of celebration, with the news that ‘Wallace and Gromit’ had gone in at No. 1 at the U.S. box office, but instead our whole history has been wiped out,” a spokesman said.

Star Trek: Enterprise Season 3 represented a change in direction for the show in attempt to revamp and boost ratings. Instead of mostly individual story episodes, the entire season is one long story, told in 24 parts, involving the Xindi and the crew of the Enterprise trying to stop them from destroying the Earth. SF writer and author of the Ender’s Game series Orson Scott Card has a review of Serenity up on his official web site. Seems Joss Whedon as jumped up on the list of people to direct an Ender’s Game movie.

Microsoft has announced that Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, the team behind the Lord of the Rings trilogy, will executive produce the feature film based on Microsoft’s hit game franchise Halo. Jackson will not direct, however.

Anonymous Coward writes “Star Wreck, the definitive fan-made feature length Star Trek parody is available after 7 years in the making. Featuring professional quality special effects, the story combines both Star Trek and Babylon 5 into one story. The 100-minute film is available on DVD and for free download over Bittorrent.”

The Browncoats didn’t seem to come out as much as hoped. Serenity took in just $10.1M, compared to $15M for Jodie Foster’s Flightplan to take second place for the weekend.

Intense. That’s the single word I’d used if I needed to describe the new Battlestar Galactica if I had to use just one word. Galactica could be on its way to being the best produced SF show to date.
