by Doc on Apr.23, 2005, under General News
From the synopsis: Set in the 22nd century, a hundred years before James T. Kirk helmed the famous starship of the same name, ENTERPRISE takes place in an era when interstellar travel is still in its infancy. Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) has assembled a crew of brave explorers to chart the galaxy on a revolutionary spacecraft: Enterprise NX-01. As the first human beings to venture into deep space, these pioneers will experience the wonder and mystery of the final frontier as they seek out new life and new civilizations. Season 1 comes out May 3rd. Here is an image of the cool case.
David Tennant named 10th Doctor
by Doc on Apr.16, 2005, under Television
Rapidly running out of regenerations, the Doctor better start figuring out how to get around it. The BBC has named the 10th actor to play Doctor Who as David Tennant, who was the odds-on favorite (I like the British bookmakers – you can bet on anything – I remember seeing a line on how many prison escape attempts would occur that day). Tennant is currently starring in Casanova, which was also written by current Who writer/exec Russell T. Davies.
Enterprise to flee to Canada?
by Doc on Apr.15, 2005, under Television
Despite Paramount’s previous statement, TrekToday says that Enterprise production could move to Canada in a co-production deal which also involves fan group TrekUnited, and report that Paramount may actually be considering the deal. Seems highly unlikely, but the fans are determined…Updated 4/18: The plug has been pulled. With all the questions regarding TrekUnited’s openness and the constant rebuffs from Paramount, the efforts have ended.
SCI FI announces new series
by Doc on Apr.14, 2005, under Television
The SCI FI Channel has announced new series for 2006-2007, which have some pretty mainstream names associated with them. The list doesn’t say which are full series and which are limited/mini-series, but it includes an update Time Tunnel; Heroes Anonymous, a comic book adaptation; Urbane Arcana, based on the Worlds of Wonder role-playing game; and 3:52, a show about what happens after 2 billion people simply disappear.
Enterprise will not be saved
by Doc on Apr.12, 2005, under Television
The official Star Trek site has posted a letter to Tim Brazeal, founder and campaign leader for SaveEnterprise.com. It says that Paramount and the producers are “flattered and impressed” at the support and ability to raise funds to produce another season of Enterprise, but the decision to cancel the show is “final.” I’m sure there was also some legal issues with the acceptance of the money.
BBC apologizes to Eccleston
by Doc on Apr.07, 2005, under Television
The BBC is apparently apologizing for several things said to the press in the announcement that Christopher Eccleston was leaving Doctor Who after one season. Apparently Eccleston had only planned to for season, and the Beeb knew it but had agreed not to reveal that fact, which it ended up doing – without talking to him first.
Star Wars fans lining up…at wrong theater?
by Doc on Apr.06, 2005, under Movies
Reports are circulating the major news outlets that eager Star Wars fans have already begun lining up outside the famous Grauman’s Chinese Theater – but the studio says the movie will not premiere there, but at the ArcLight down the street. However, the ArcLight deal is not finalized, and fans have pointed out Fox has said the the same thing before.
Future features: bittorrent tracker?
by Doc on Apr.05, 2005, under General News
As I come up with ideas to improve the site, (and yes, I will get back to work at the software at some point), one idea seems pretty cool, but I’m not sure of how useful it would be. I’m in love with BitTorrent – the protocol, not the fact that I can download pretty much anything, legal or not. This may be more interesting to content providers for trailers, etc., but is there interest in a BitTorrent tracker for legitimate, legal downloads of SF media?
Sci-fi excerpt: Cradle’s Children
by Doc on Apr.04, 2005, under Stories
DarkSyde writes “(The following is an except from a never ending sci-fi book/novel/project/hobby of mine. I’ve had a lot of trouble with this section. It’s clumsy and crude and just doesn’t flow like I want it to. I think I can work that out, and the basic idea is half decent and imaginative, or so I have deluded myself into believing. But I need any constructive criticism for the abio/biochem which I can tell is hopelessly infantile, as well as anything else that sticks out. Anyway, hope you enjoy it. It’s also copy write protected, but I give permission to reproduce this in part or in whole if proper attribution is given and a link to UTI at http://www.brentrasmussen.com/archives/2005/04/wee kend_science_3.html is provided)” Read More for the full excerpt.
Keanu Reeves Saves the Universe!
by Doc on Apr.02, 2005, under General News
Rob Reese writes “Amnesia Wars presents: Keanu Reeves Saves the Universe is a twisted, bawdy, silly, romp through your favorite science fiction tales where time isn’t the only thing that’s warped! This raucous, irreverent satire illegally marries Star Trek, Star Wars, and The Matrix to Laugh-In, South Park, and The Marx Brothers. Following a COMPLETELY SOLD OUT run in 2004 at the Peoples Improv Theater, K.R.S.T.U. will re-open for a limited run in spring of 2005.” Read More for the full announcement. I don’t think it’s an April Fool’s joke, and I’m too tired to come up with my own…read Slashdot for that.
