Review of THX 1138 Director’s Cut

by on Dec.02, 2004, under General News, Movies, Video/DVD

I finally got the time to finish going through THX 1138 – The George Lucas Director’s Cut – a newborn has been taking a lot of our time and is a constant distraction – I’d like to view it again before writing this, but I promised a review a while ago. Anyways…in a nutshell, it may have been made in 1971, but it is still a relevant film and wears its age fairly well. And for the first feature film of the man who later gave us Star Wars and Indiana Jones, an amazing film.

Ultimate Matrix DVD collection due next week

by on Nov.30, 2004, under General News

Egads. This is probably the second biggest DVD release compared to the original material, next to the Lord of the Rings trilogy – The Ultimate Matrix Collection. This is 10 DVDs – one each for the three movies, one each for the Revisited featurette collections, The Animatrix, and three more disks full of goodies – and it hits the streets on December 7th with an MSRP of $79.92 (pre-order now from Amazon.com for 30% discount). It’s a whopping 35 hours of extras. A perfect Christmas gift for the Neo or Trinity in your life. I like the look of the special gift set, also available for pre-order, with cool plastic case and a Neo bust.

I’ve updated the SF TV Store with a number of items. Notables are the complete seasons of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and the next two Doctor Who releases: “The Green Death” and The Visitation”. Could the Beeb be any slower? Two episodes in six months?

Toy Story 3 moving forward

by on Nov.16, 2004, under Movies

We’ve seen it before, but now its official – Disney is actively moving ahead with Toy Story 3, without Pixar. They are setting up a digital animation shop in Glendale, CA – down the road from CGI rivals DreamWorks. Couldn’t they have ressurected some of the facilities in Orlando, so that Disney/MGM Studios at least has some semblance to an active facility?

The Chronicles of Riddick DVD will be released Tuesday, but I was fortunate to get an advanced review copy. I had not seen the movie during its theatrical release, so I didn’t know what to expect. I was relatively pleased.
