Alien 5? Not quite…
by Doc on Feb.05, 2001, under General News
A London tabloid (the Sunday Express) is apparently reporting that Sigourney Weaver has signed on to do Alien 5 for £15,000,000 ($22,000,000). Reuters and Yahoo have picked it up – but apparently, they didn’t take into account the source. That doesn’t mean its not happening, but as tabloid is the only known source of the info for a movie that hasn’t left the rumor stage, take it with a grain of quadrotriticale…
Update 2/7: Weaver is now denying the report…
The Internet, aliens and the Usenet Cabal
by Doc on Feb.05, 2001, under General News
rinkjustice writes “There’s a compelling article at HardcoreLinux about how aliens devised the internet to gather the collective consciousness of the human race. Regardless of whether you find the whole alien internet conspiracy to be spectacular sci-fi (as I do) or hard fact, author David Pacheco illustrates how some have been prevented from publishing their views online. A great read whether you’re a sysadmin or conspiracy buff.” Perhaps that explains all the spam in my inbox this morning – It’s all mind control or something.
Marilyn Manson is NOT going to be Willy Wonka
by Doc on Feb.04, 2001, under Movies
Warner Bros. issued a quick statement to offset a wildfire rumor started by the New York Post (helped to no end by a panicked Rosie O’Donnell) stating that “Neither Gary Ross nor Warner Bros. Pictures have any intention whatsoever of casting Marilyn Manson in the revered role of ‘Willy Wonka’ or any other role in the film.” See what happens when when a “credible” person with star power forgets to check any facts?
And don’t get me started as to my opinion as to whether they should even TOUCH this gem…
New City of Dreams on SciFi.com
by Doc on Feb.02, 2001, under Stories
djryan writes “After a long hiatus a new episode of City of Dreams has been uploaded to SciFi.com. This episode, titled “The Alpha and Omega of David Welles”, is probably the scariest, most disturbing epsiode yet and has to be listened to.
A man in search of the Truth undergoes a past-life regression that takes him further than anyone has ever gone before.

Another Time Machine??
by Doc on Jan.26, 2001, under Movies
We’ve been treated to the
original (with Rod Taylor and Yvette Mimieux), tortured by the
1978 TV movie (come on, John Beck – Moonpie in Rollerball – as a smart guy? :^), and got a chuckle out of seeing H.G. in his own contraption chasing Jack the Ripper (Time After Time), and countless other loosely based titles. Do we need another, when the first was so good?
IGN Filmforce is reporting that a remake is in the works, scripted by John Logan (Gladiator and the upcoming Trek movie) with Guy Pierce (Rules of Engagement) in the lead role. Although it sounds like this may keep true to the original story, what are the odds that it can meet or surpass the original?
Update 2/13: Ain’t It Cool News has posted 8 pictures from the set…
Buffy to ABC or Fox? “No way” says SMG
by Doc on Jan.24, 2001, under Television
Reuters has a report out that Sarah Michelle Geller is threatening to leave the show if it moves off of the WB. Seems the producers (under Fox Television) want more fees, and the WB may not be willing to pay, so ABC and Fox are named as possible destinations.
Problem is, Sarah is under contract beyond the current season already (although it doesn’t say exactly how long).
Babylon 5 Returns?

It Came from Bob’s Basement – the Prop Man in Print
by Doc on Jan.19, 2001, under General News
CNN.com is running an article about the prop-master himself, Bob Burns, and his new book, [asin=0811825728]It Came from Bob’s Basement: Exploring the Science Fiction and Monster Movie Archive of Bob Burns[/asin]. The article is a bit off (it says Rod Serling, not Rod Taylor, stepped into The Time Machine). Some may remember Bob from earlier days on the Sci-Fi Channel as a regular on Sci-Fi Buzz, a news-ish program, wher ehe would often show off his collection…

by Doc on Jan.19, 2001, under Movies
LordOfTheRings.net now has a trailer available for Net viewing. The shots look great, but its difficult to see when its so small…maybe I can convince the wife to get a babysitter and go see Thirteen Days, where the full trailer is being shown…
