Christopher Tolkien has been continuing his father’s work, sifting through piles and piles of notes and stories written over many years and editing them into publishable works, but they were not for the average reader, expecting something like The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings, being very difficult to read, disjointed, and sometimes conflicting with other works. Not so with The Children of Hurin, originally started by J.R.R. Tolkien 99 years ago, which follows the story of of Hurin, and his children Turin and Nienor. The story has appeared in various forms in previous releases, but this is a newly edited version making it much more readable. CNN has a consise review of the novel. Update: And rumors of a movie are already out. Of course, this is just for the option to make it, which in many cases never get exercised.

Christopher Tolkien, son of the late J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and other books set in his mythical Middle Earth, spent the last 30 years editing an abandoned tale of his father’s called “The Children of Húrin”. Although it has appeared in excerpt form in other books, it is now being released as its own novel. The story refers to the tragic tales of the descendants of Húrin, a captive of Morgoth. In particular, his son Túrin and daughter Nienor, in a story with Elves, Dwarves, and even a dragon (Glaurung, Father of Dragons). The book is set to be published in the Spring of 2007.

This is hitting the morening news outlets – J.K. Rowling has finished Harry Potter and th Half-Blood Prince and a release date should be announced today. Update: Release date is July 16th in US and Britain, per CNN.

Lucasfilm announced the full title of the next Star Wars movie – Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith – at the San Diego Comic Con today. Other announcements include DVDs of the Droids and Ewoks series, and the two live-action Ewok TV movies and more. Nothing on the Star Wars Holdiay Special though… 🙂
