An official crossover between Doctor Who and Star Trek?
by Doc on Feb.10, 2012, under Comics, Television
Wacky crossovers between franchises have existed for many, many years…mostly in the area of fan fiction. But now it seems there could be an official crossover between two major franchises – Doctor Who (in the form of current Doctor Matt Smith, plus Amy and Rory) and Star Trek (in the form of The Next Generation crew). But before you get too excited, it’s not like it will be an episode of either. Instead it will take place as a comic series published by IDW, and apparently with the blessings of both rights holders.
More details are expected to be revealed at Gallifrey One next week.

Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a The Rock) has signed on to star in an adaptation of [asin=0982750781]The Monster Hunter’s Survival Guide[/asin], a comic book miniseries created by John Paul Russ.
Johnson has a been a very busy boy lately…after some apparent time off, he’s revived both his Hollywood and wrestling careers, currently working on G.I. Joe 2 and is headlining Wrestlemania XXVIII.
The Monster Hunter’s Survival Guide is being produced by Simon Kinberg (Elysium, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) under his Genre Films shingle.
Former Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark director sues producers
by Doc on Nov.08, 2011, under Comics
Apparently it’s been far too long since the Broadway production of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark has been mentioned as having troubles…now former director Julie Tamor is filing suit against the producers for using the stuff she developed without paying her. Apparently she believes she is due royalties from the production, but has yet to receive anything.

In case you are missing it, Real Life Comics is doing a Stargate SG-1 themed thread, which you can start reading from here (there are a couple interstitial comics not related to the thread as well). Filming done on Judge Dredd, but he’s in trouble
by Doc on Oct.07, 2011, under Comics, Movies
Hoping that Karl Urban’s take on Judge Dredd would help alleviate the pain of all Dredd fans that suffered through the Sylvester Stallone flop (truthfully, I enjoy it as a humorous schlock film)?? You may have to wait a while – possibly forever. Because even though filming is done, everything has been thrown into turmoil after director Peter Travis has reportedly been ejected after disagreements with the producers over the quality of footage. Writer/producer Andrew Garland has taken over as editor, and could possibly ask permission for the unusual co-director credit on the film.
Although it is unlikely the entire film might be scrapped, there could at least be some reshoots. And such editing-room fighting does not often bode well for the reception of the movie…

Wonder Woman unbound, picked up by NBC
by Doc on Jan.22, 2011, under Comics, Television
The NBC Universal-Comcast merger appears to be having an effect on programming already. Despite NBC’s interest but ultimate passing just two weeks ago on David E. Kelley’s spec script for Wonder Woman, new president Bob Greenblatt revisted that decision and elected to pick up the show.
With The Hulk turning (ahem) green at ABC, could we see dueling comic heros – and comic book studios?
