Firefly convention cancelled, but stars still shine

by on Dec.11, 2006, under Conventions

Flanvention, which was to take place this past weekend in Los Angeles, was cancelled suddenly for unknown reasons by the organizer, Booster Entertainment, a for-profit group. Even their website is broken now, where it previously announced the cancellation the day before the event with an “official notice” due in “10 days”, and several hundred Browncoats were suddenly without a convention – and their money. Some payed major bucks in advance as some sort of “premium membership”. All was not lost, however. Even though they knew it was cancelled, a number of the stars showed up anyways and hung out with the fans – including Adam Baldwin, Nathan Fillion, and Mark Sheppard.

by on Nov.09, 2006, under Conventions

Bad news for UK SF fans – I just caught wind that the 2007 Eastercon (the British National SF Convention) called “Convoy” has been cancelled – and the official Convoy web site seems to agree. From the message, it appears that they lost their venue. It was supposed to be held April 6-9 in Liverpool.
