The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
by Doc on Oct.18, 2010, under Fun Stuff
To wrap up the Syfy Digital Press Tour, we got access to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter area at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure theme park. I’ve been following this place eagerly since opening, with a family trip planned in a couple months – but a “preview” without having to deal with the huge crowds? That would be just amazing…

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida
by Doc on Oct.17, 2010, under Fun Stuff
[WARNING – some of what is below could be considered spoilers if you are planning on attending…]
As part of the Syfy Digital Press Tour, on the first night we were taken over to Universal Studios for a special “RIP Tour” of Halloween Horror Nights XX, the 20th year of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida. I’ve never attended a horror-oriented event before, so had no idea what to expect and wasn’t originally planning to attend but as I heard more about it it sounded interesting.

Syfy press event at Universal Studios Florida
by Doc on Oct.08, 2010, under Fun Stuff, Television
Just a reminder – this is probably the last post for a few days as I head down to Universal Studios Florida to take part in a Syfy press event…I will be giving rapid-fire updates on Twitter (@scifistorm) and Facebook, so be sure to follow us there – both places would probably be good in case there are problems keeping them linked together, and I’ll be uploading pictures and possibly video to Facebook. Most of the stuff takes place on Monday, and depending on battery life, etc. some stuff may appear Tuesday morning, and a full recap here on Wednesday.
By the way – more followers makes us look good, so be sure to follow us!
We should have plenty of info on Warehouse 13, Sactuary, Caprica, and the upcoming Being Human series, as well as some other things like Destination Truth, Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files, Hollywood Treasures, Marcel’s Quantum Kitchen, and even a little WWE Smackdown…and perhaps a preview of some upcoming Syfy plans.
If you’ve got a few questions about any of the above, and I get the chance I’ll ask them!

by Doc on Aug.30, 2010, under Fun Stuff
Blastr (nee Sci-Fi Wire) has an interesting graphical representation of what has transpired in the history of attempting to get a live-action version of The Hobbit on the big screen – think Family Circus. Points off though for “The Similarion”.

Well, not actually…today was the latest MIT Hack, with the TARDIS appearing on top of one of the buildings.

Other notable entries include Gollum (5), Babylon 5‘s Shadows (6, not bad for a show nearly 12 years gone…still wish we were getting more), The Borg (11), Pilot from Farscape (12), and the Cybermen (13).

Doctor Who from Down Under
by Doc on Aug.06, 2010, under Fun Stuff, Television
Here is a new variation of the Doctor Who theme song: acoustic guitar, cello – and a didgeridoo providing the base line. Now I just need Blue Man Group to give it a try…
