Whedonverse at Comic-Con: Dr. Horrible to air on CW; Firefly reunion
by Doc on Jul.15, 2012, under Fun Stuff, Television
TV|Line has been giving some quick summaries of some Comic-Con panels, and one of the big ones was the Firefly reunion panel, which brought together Joss Whedon and most of the cast (Gina Torres, Jewel Staite and Morena Baccarin could not attend)…and resulted in a few tears among the panelists.
What seemed to make this cast so special began with Nathan Fillion, who was determined to make the cast and crew a family. According to Alan Tudyk, “Right at the beginning, when we first started shooting the series, Nathan came up to all the actors and said, ‘We’re learning all the names [of the cast and crew].’ It became a game [that] brought everybody together as a family.”

This just looks cool – so cool, they made a trailer for it. Transformers: The Ride opens at Universal Studios Hollywood
by Doc on May.26, 2012, under Fun Stuff, Movies
The latest movie-themed attraction, Transformers: The Ride, opened this week at Universal Studios Hollywood, and it certainly looks like a wild ride! To celebrate the opening, a full red carpet event was put on, including Optimus Prime and Bumblebee walking the carpet and posing for photo ops, and a whole ceremony with the two driving in and saving the All Spark. Check out the pictures and video (provided by Universal and our friends at Inside the Magic, who described the ride as “Spiderman x1000”).
Check out a Doctor Who mini-episode – written by students
by Doc on May.24, 2012, under Fun Stuff, Television
While we wait until late in the year to finally travel with the Doctor again, at least we can watch an interesting mini-episode, themed around the upcoming London 2012 Olympics, titled “Good as Gold”. What makes this mini-episode more interesting is that it is the winner of a Script-to-Screen competition, where British primary school students aged 9-11 write and submit their scripts based on the theme. The winning entry was from the students at Ashdene Primary School in Wilmslow.
I wouldn’t call it canon, but it is neat.

Exclusive: A talk with Star Wars: The Clone Wars star and Her Universe founder Ashley Eckstein
by Doc on May.16, 2012, under Fun Stuff, Movies, Television
Ashley Eckstein, who voices the character of Jedi padawan Ashoka Tano in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, is not your typical SF actor…she’s a fan as well. And as a female fan, she’s trying to change the SF merchandise landscape: one that has been marketed primarily to males, even though females account for half of science fiction fans. That’s why she’s founded Her Universe, which produces products focused on female fans.
Her Universe just launched some of their Star Wars shirts online with retailer Hot Topic, and Ashley begins her job as co-host for Star Wars Weekends at Walt Disney World this Friday, and taking place every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through June 10th.
I spoke with the always friendly Ashley about Her Universe, Star Wars, and Disney.

Star Wars Weekends starts a week from tomorrow at Walt Disney World, but some of the stars and characters are around a bit early…actress Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano, founder of Her Universe (awesome Star Wars and Syfy apparel and items for the female fans) and co-host of Star Wars Weekends, was around this past weekend signing pictures and selling merchandise. And it seems she found a rather persistent admirer…
