John Carter of Mars on the move again

The on-again, off-again John Carter of Mars project, based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ series of novels about a civil war veteran who finds himself caught up with a princess on the planet Mars, has Jon Favreau attached to direct. The project has wandered in development hell for many years, but Favreau believes technology has come to the point that it can be made. Now all the need is a script…that’s currently Ehren Kruger’s (Scream 3) job.

Great, catastrophic news for Wallace and Gromit

Just after the numbers came in declaring Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit tops at the box office taking in $16.1 million, disaster struck when the warehouse containing sets and props from all of the previous features was destroyed in a fire. Also lost were items from their first feature-length release, Chicken Run. “Today was supposed to be a day of celebration, with the news that ‘Wallace and Gromit’ had gone in at No. 1 at the U.S. box office, but instead our whole history has been wiped out,” a spokesman said.

Peter Jackson meets Halo

Microsoft has announced that Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, the team behind the Lord of the Rings trilogy, will executive produce the feature film based on Microsoft’s hit game franchise Halo. Jackson will not direct, however.

Serenity second to Foster’s Flightplan

A Real Life perspective on the Serenity premiere

The creator of my favorite web comics, Real Life, had the opportunity to attend the LA Premiere of Serenity. You can read his account on the main page (at least until it bumps into the archives). Serenity Fan Fest at Universal Studios Hollywood

Universal Studios Hollywood will be hosting the Serenity Fan Fest this Saturday, September 24th from 2pm-4pm. Creator Joss Whedon and cast members Summer Glau (River Tam), Adam Baldwin (Jayne Cobb), Morena Baccarin (Inara Serra) will be there, along with special effects and prop exhibits. It is free with regular admission, and all you Browncoats get a discount. Serenity opens on the 30th.
