Monsters, Inc. to bow early
by Doc on Feb.12, 2001, under Movies
Disney/Pixar’s latest all-CGI movie, Monsters, Inc. will hit the screens two weeks earlier than expected on November 2nd. Seems they don’t want to go head to head with the highly-anticipated Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, due out for Thanskgiving…
Director’s Edition of Star Trek: The Motion Picture
by Doc on Feb.09, 2001, under Movies
I thought I had already posted about this, but couldn’t find it. Seems a lot of people – including the director, Robert Wise – thought the original film was, well, boring. It didn’t have the feel of the series. Wise aims to change that on a new DVD coming out…
Marilyn Manson is NOT going to be Willy Wonka
by Doc on Feb.04, 2001, under Movies
Warner Bros. issued a quick statement to offset a wildfire rumor started by the New York Post (helped to no end by a panicked Rosie O’Donnell) stating that “Neither Gary Ross nor Warner Bros. Pictures have any intention whatsoever of casting Marilyn Manson in the revered role of ‘Willy Wonka’ or any other role in the film.” See what happens when when a “credible” person with star power forgets to check any facts?

Another Time Machine??
by Doc on Jan.26, 2001, under Movies
We’ve been treated to the
original (with Rod Taylor and Yvette Mimieux), tortured by the
1978 TV movie (come on, John Beck – Moonpie in Rollerball – as a smart guy? :^), and got a chuckle out of seeing H.G. in his own contraption chasing Jack the Ripper (Time After Time), and countless other loosely based titles. Do we need another, when the first was so good?
IGN Filmforce is reporting that a remake is in the works, scripted by John Logan (Gladiator and the upcoming Trek movie) with Guy Pierce (Rules of Engagement) in the lead role. Although it sounds like this may keep true to the original story, what are the odds that it can meet or surpass the original?
Update 2/13: Ain’t It Cool News has posted 8 pictures from the set…

An article at Iwon.com is stating that The Incredible Hulk will make a live-action return – this time on film. Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) is in early discussions with Universal to direct, with a planned release in 2003. This version is set in Berkeley, CA, and is expected to be effects driven with a big budget. Gale Anne Hurd (the Terminator movies, Aliens, The Abyss, Armageddon and more) will produce.

by Doc on Jan.11, 2001, under Movies
Found this today: The Official Rendevous With Rama Web Site. Seems Morgan Freeman’s production company, Revelations Entertainment, along with Arthur C. Clarke himself and director David Fincher (Fight Club, Alien 3, Seven) are putting it together for 2003.

Update (1/2): Videos are available from [aml]…they are listed as Special Order (4-6 weeks), and are $13.99 each. Simply do a search for “The Starlost”.
