See the official In Time trailer

by on Aug.08, 2011, under Movies

The upcoming In Time looks very interesting. A touch of Logan’s Run, time – in the sense of how long you live – is a commodity which can be earned and traded.

When Will Salas is falsely accused of murder, he must figure out a way to bring down a system where time is money – literally – enabling the wealthy to live forever while the poor, like Will, have to beg, borrow, and steal enough minutes to make it through another day.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 WB’s highest international grossing film ever

by on Aug.01, 2011, under Movies

According to Warner Bros, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is their highest grossing film ever internationally – and it reached that mark in a mere 19 days of release. Just this past weekend it took in $66.6 million internationally on 14,500 screens. And it doesn’t even open in China until Thursday.

For some reason I can see Warner Bros executives wishing J.K. Rowling would write some more stories…not sure why 🙂

Star Trek 2 won’t shoot until January at the earliest

by on Jul.26, 2011, under Movies

The long-awaited Star Trek reboot sequel will wait a while longer – Co-writer/producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman reported at SDCC that they hope to start shooting in January 2012 – while Paramount still has it penciled in for a June 29th, 2012 release. Fellow co-writer/producer Damon Lindelof also said, “Right now my days and nights are consumed by Star Trek 2. We were supposed to dive in on that as soon as I finished Lost, but JJ [Abrams] was so busy on Super 8, Alex [Kurtzman] and Bob [Orci] had their own sort of empire to manage. Now finally the four creative minds that made the first movie what it was are all back in a room together and that was the only way we wanted to do it.”

I don’t know…should we start a pool on what the first day of principal photography will actually be?

Warner Bros puts Arthur & Lancelot on the really fast track

by on Jul.25, 2011, under Movies

Well, we might not be longing for more Camelot adventures of a sort for long. Warner Bros, which scooped up the spec script for Arthur & Lancelot from writer/director David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) in a bidding war last month, has already set a release date of March 15, 2013 and set the budget at $90 million. It is a contemporary re-imagining of the story, with Dobkin set to direct and produce, and Lionel Wigram with Jeff Kleeman exec producing.

This apparently also put the brakes on two other Arthur-based projects in development at WB, including an Excalibur remake,.

Superman held back – The Man Of Steel pushed to 2013

by on Jul.21, 2011, under Movies

So it appears that Superman CAN be stopped…or at least delayed. Warner Bros has pulled The Man Of Steel, the franchise reboot starring Henry Cavill, from its late 2012 release to June 14th, 2013. Some think it is due to the ongoing rights dispute between DC Comics and the estates of creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, but there was another rock of kryptonite nearby…the release of part 1 of The Hobbit.

Universal scraps ambitious Dark Tower project

by on Jul.19, 2011, under Books, Movies, Television

Universal had some cold feet regarding the massive The Dark Tower project, putting it on hold back in May, but producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard still had hopes of working out a budget and schedule with the studio. Well, apparently Universal felt the cold creeping in and has now scrapped the project completely. Reportedly after reviewing the script from writer Akiva Goldsman for the first film and series, the studio balked and would only commit to the movie, but the producers really wanted to film the series in tandem with all the sets available.

Envisioned as a trilogy of movies as well as two limited TV series, the project certainly presented a big risk for the studio. Grazer and Howard are presumably free to shop the project around to another studio.
