The lawsuit between the Tolkien Estate and New Line Cinema over profits from the three movies has been settled. The estate had sued for $150 million, claiming that New Line failed to pay them 7.5% of the gross receipts, and also sought to revoke rights to any other Tolkien works, including The Hobbit, but with the settlement in place New Line and MGM can move forward with the adaptation as planned.

by on Sep.07, 2009, under Movies

Mike writes “Combining elements of Alien Nation and Enemy Mine, District 9 adroitly balances political commentary on apartheid with Peter Jackson-ian levels of violence. The movie ends with more questions than answers and the certainty of a sequel. I can’t wait!

Warner Bros. is now looking to remake the Sean Connery 1981 vehicle Outland, which was about a police officer who arrives on Jupiter’s moon Io at a mining colony and proceeds to clean up the place, much to the chagrin of some others, in what some describe as a Space Western. Newcomer Chad St. John will write and Michael Davis (Shoot ‘Em Up) will direct with an expanded vision of the original idea.
