Spacescapes created by spray paint

by on Jan.29, 2007, under General News

TheThunderChild writes http://thethunderchild.com/Art/Sprayman.html is the URL for an interview with “Sprayman” – Mr. Janez Jevnikar.

I belong to a mailing list of fantasy and science fiction artists – artists who create everything from spacescapes to astronauts and alien creatures. I assumed they all did their work in water-colors or oils, etc. Little did I realize that there’s a technique out there called Aerosolgrafia (well, to give it its Slovenian name!) where artists create glorious spacescapes, in less than 20 minutes, using quick drying spray paint. I interviewed a Slovenian artist whose work sells throughout the world. He’s a ‘performance artist’ – an audience watches him while he works. These performances are available to view on the web and are fascinating to watch.”

Doctor Who – The Complete Second Series DVD review

by on Jan.17, 2007, under General News

Doctor Who – The Complete Second Series came out today on DVD in the U.S., following closely on the heels of the conclusion airing on the SCI FI Channel. At the end of the first series, people were dealing with the sudden shock of the man who led the return of the show, Christopher Eccleston, who proved to be extremely popular, suddenly leaving and being left with a new actor in David Tennant. Could the show survive such a sudden massive change? Well, just like the original series, the show not only survives, but the new Doctor is, to borrow a word, “Brilliant.” Read More for the series and DVD review.

Groovy Ass Alien Kreatures web comic rocks

by on Jan.16, 2007, under General News

TheThunderChild writes “GAAK (Groovy Ass Alien Kreatures) is a weekly webcomic written and drawn by Darryl Hughes and Monique MacNaughton. They tell the fantastic adventures of a group of “Goonies”-like kids who stumble into sci-fi adventures unimaginable. (Yes, sci-fi, as in the classic 1950s movie offerings that we all know and love.) The Thunder Child tooncasts the comic at GAAK. Check it out. You, too, will become hooked!”

Russian rocket lights up Colorado sky

by on Jan.05, 2007, under General News

Apparently a Russian booster rocket re-entered the atmosphere over Colorado and created a cool light show, which was caught on video by a local news station’s traffic helicopter. At the time, they thought it was a meteor – but if you listen to the commentary, don’t mistake a meteorologist for someone who would know anything about this…

The 2007 Tournament of Roses Parade, which kicks off New Year’s Day, will have a tribute to Star Wars, including George Lucas as the Grand Marshall, and members of the “501st Legion”, an unofficial group of hardcore fans that appear in authentic replica costumes. Lucasfilm is flying in 200 of them from around the world to participate. Also, the Grambling State University Marching Band will appear in Imperial officer uniforms. At each end of the tribute section of the parade will be floats – one scene from Endor, the other of Naboo.
