Robert Jordan Diagnosed With Rare Blood Disease

by on Mar.30, 2006, under General News

oMaT writes “According to a post by the man himself on the TOR books site, Robert Jordan has been diagnosed with primary amyloidosis with cardiomyapathy. Apparently it’s pretty serious as his own medical professionals have indicated they believe he has a median life expectancy of four years – though he states his intention to live another thirty. I wish Mr. Jordan all the best and convey my deepest gratitude for the sheer pleasure he’s brought forth thus far.” Jordan is the author of The Wheel of Time series of novels.

SCI-FI?S BEST KEPT SECRET

by on Mar.06, 2006, under General News

Hawley Griffin writes “WORD HAS IT that buried somewhere in the Northwest San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, is one of the most intriguing Sci-Fi/High Adventure TV Shows that, as yet, has not been made.

Cryptically, and simply entitled, ?51″, the show?s backdrop is the equally intriguing and cryptic Area 51 located at Groom Lake Nevada. With all the urban legend and modern mythology surrounding this mysterious locale, writer-creator Michael David Stewart has come up with an ensemble based series that embraces the best elements of Science-Fiction and the type of high adventure found in the great Hollywood films like ?King Solomon?s Mines?, ?Journey to the Center of the Earth?, and ?Ice Station Zebra?.” Read More for the full release.

by on Feb.28, 2006, under General News

It wasn’t a very good weekend. We have had to say goodbye to Don Knotts (The Andy Griffith Show, The Reluctant Astronaut – a personal favorite as a kid), Darrin McGavin (Kolchak: The Night Stalker among other genre films), and Hugo and Nebula winning SF author Octavia Butler.

Doom: Unrated Extended Edition Review

by on Feb.17, 2006, under General News

Doom 3 was, frankly, the most frightening video game I ever played. Visually and aurally stunning, I actually had to limit my playing or else I had trouble sleeping. Now turned into a movie, would Doom: Unrated Extended Edition live up to the game?

Things may be scarce for a bit

by on Feb.16, 2006, under General News

I am working full speed at trying to get another job (I’m laid off as of the end of the month), and various other emergencies are eating up my time, so please forgive if I don’t updated the site as regularly as I intended. I do owe a review for Doom – Unrated Edition. And if anyone knows of a senior UNIX/Linux admin position in the Boston area, please let me know…or if Yahoo or Google wants to buy this site it may tide me over 🙂
