Future features: bittorrent tracker?
by Doc on Apr.05, 2005, under General News
As I come up with ideas to improve the site, (and yes, I will get back to work at the software at some point), one idea seems pretty cool, but I’m not sure of how useful it would be. I’m in love with BitTorrent – the protocol, not the fact that I can download pretty much anything, legal or not. This may be more interesting to content providers for trailers, etc., but is there interest in a BitTorrent tracker for legitimate, legal downloads of SF media?
Keanu Reeves Saves the Universe!
by Doc on Apr.02, 2005, under General News
Rob Reese writes “Amnesia Wars presents: Keanu Reeves Saves the Universe is a twisted, bawdy, silly, romp through your favorite science fiction tales where time isn’t the only thing that’s warped! This raucous, irreverent satire illegally marries Star Trek, Star Wars, and The Matrix to Laugh-In, South Park, and The Marx Brothers. Following a COMPLETELY SOLD OUT run in 2004 at the Peoples Improv Theater, K.R.S.T.U. will re-open for a limited run in spring of 2005.” Read More for the full announcement. I don’t think it’s an April Fool’s joke, and I’m too tired to come up with my own…read Slashdot for that.

by Doc on Mar.15, 2005, under General News
A year and a day after I first posted about the possibility, Lord of the Rings: The Musical has been announced to open in Toronto in Match 2006, and then head to London after six months. Writing the music is Bollywood composer A.R. Rahman, who created “Bombay Dreams”. Producers also said that they are planning to go back to the books and not simply duplicate Peter Jackson’s films. Perhaps that means we’ll finally see Tom Bombadil? After all, he sings…
Jackson sues New Line over Rings
by Doc on Mar.02, 2005, under General News
Ever hear how movie studios brag about how much their movies make, but the people who have stake in the profits never seen to see a dime because they always lose money? Looks like a form of it has hit the Lord of the Rings franchise. Peter Jackson and his Wingnut Films, Ltd. have filed suit against New Line Cinema, alleging among other things that New Line engaged in “self-dealing” with New Line affiliates, which charged more than what could be obtained from other companies. THe suit only concerns the first film.

dugh writes “SciFi Channel is doing a bold thing and releasing the full first episode of the new Battlestar Galactica series, including deleted scenes. This is very cool. I only wish they hadn’t done it with Realplayer (yeah, I’m prejudiced).”
