Galactica, Buck Rogers stuff up for auction

by on Jul.30, 2003, under General News

Looks like Glen Larson’s garage sale. eBay is going to have a live auction tomorrow (7/31) of various Sci-Fi memorabilia – mostly stuff from Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century costumes and props, including a full Twiki costume and a full Cylon costume – two expected to get the most money ($40k for Twiki). There is a fairly complete set of Erin Gray’s costumes. There are a few other items, like Cyclop’s visor from X-Men and Mystique’s wig and – well, a couple of prosthetic appliances…

Update: I missed the fact that the link points to the 4th of 8 pages – going backwards I found the true top-dollar item: Superman George Reeve’s costume (complete) – expected to reach up to $150k.

Jim Henson’s The Storyteller series on DVD

by on Jul.13, 2003, under General News

In 1987, Henson Associates, in conjunction with HBO and TVS (UK) produced a short-lived anthology series called The Storyteller based on the folk tales of Anthony Minghella (with e Tolkien-esque feel), considered one of Jim Henson’s finest achievements. Now, the entire nine-episode run will be available on DVD on August 26th – for an pretty low price (MSRP $24.95 – Amazon currently lists at $18.71). Some SCI FI fans may notice some genre actors in guest roles, including Jason Carter (Babylon 5) and Jan Chappell (Blake’s 7).

Olmos: Don’t watch Galactica if you’re a purist

by on Jul.12, 2003, under General News

In an amazing talk in from of the Television Critics Association that probably has some of the producers a bit on edge, Edward James Olmos, who plays Adama in the upcoming Battlestar Galactica remake on SCI FI, said that if you are a die-hard fan of the original, that he “would not advise them to watch this program. It will hurt them . . .”. Apparently only the starting premise really has been preserved – humans see their homeworld destroyed, and decide to continue to fight. Beyond that, forget about following the original series.

Back online…

by on Jul.05, 2003, under General News

We’re back online after a few hours of lack of power. A large power outage not only took the server down, but the network it is attached to, but all is well now. Expect more news (albeit late – haven’t had much time) later today or tomorrow.

Potter V breaking records

by on Jun.23, 2003, under General News

Heard this on the radio first, but now its online. Scholastic, Inc., the U.S. publisher of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is estimating that 5 million copies of the book were sold on the first day (last Saturday) to consumers. Amazon.com shipped out a million copies alone the first day (our arrived by the afternoon), Barnes and Noble says they sold another million after 48 hours – 5 days earlier than expected – and Borders sold another 750,000 the first day. Now I have to pry it from my wife’s hands just to get a look…
