Classic SF props to be auctioned

by on Apr.15, 2003, under General News

Interested in the full-sized Robot from the original Lost in Space? A pulse rifle from Aliens? A Harkonnen flagship from the Dune movie? Altaira’s dress from Forbidden Planet? Got lots (like thousands) of dollars to spend? Check out the Ultimate Sci-Fi Auction at eBay Live Auctions. Lots of good stuff. Perhaps I should postpone that Disney vacation and pick up a tricorder…

Update 2: Stores back online

by on Apr.09, 2003, under General News

My DSL line appears to be out, and I won’t get home until later to check it out, so the Storm stores are currently offline. It managed to correctly adjust to an IP change earlier this week, but this seems to be a bigger issue. I was going to do some testing with new forum software too…

Update: The line is up again. IP address has changed again, but DNS servers should pick it up quickly – you may need to restart your browser. For the techies – lets just say I hate PPPoE.Update 4/10: Another IP change. Give it time to get out. I was having strange routing issues to one particular destination (where the main server is, of course), and Verizon suggested I restart yet again – this time though I got an address that looked more in line with my previous ones. Still not sure it is working right, but…

The Animatrix review, of sorts…

by on Apr.02, 2003, under General News

The great folks at Warner Home Video sent me a “preview” DVD of The Animatrix, the set of 9 anime-style and CGI shorts set in the world of The Matrix and act as a prelude to The Matrix Reloaded. It’s sort of an extended commercial for the true DVD, which comes out June 3rd. But all I can say is WOW! The anime segments remind me of the styles of the best anime features, and the realism of the CGI rendering – these characters look REAL. Even the case it came in is cool – the DVD pops out of the top when you pull the index card down! The DVD will also include commentary and features on the 7 directors plus more. Did I forget to say the WHV people are wonderful? (Maybe they’ll send me a full copy to review… 🙂 (P.S. I’m experimenting with including the Amazon.com images…let me know if it is too much…)

What’s missing?

by on Mar.25, 2003, under General News

This is my periodic “Should I continue?” posting. Seems readership is down, and my time has been rather limited – two weeks lost due to pneumonia and a lot of catching up to do. Plus, sales via the SF stores is very much down compared to last year, and that’s what helps pay the bills. So, I ask – what can I do to make this better and get more participation? I’d like to put up more news, but I can only do so much so I limit to the more interesting stuff, plus what little comes in from others (I thank BaronMoritani for all the Dune snippets). Would a more open discussion forum (ala UBB, but with some free software) be of interest?

Update: Stores fixed…

by on Mar.14, 2003, under General News

For the first time since switching DSL providers, my DSL line has gone down, naturally after I left for work. So the stores will be offline until I can get back and figure out what happened…Update: Should be fixed now, but it might take a while to see (and you may need to exit your browser). Apparently with a power outage yesterday, when everything came back up my IP changed (damned dynamic IP – never had to worry about that before) and I didn’t have the right logging turned on to detect it…
