Star Trek actors break record on Weakest Link
by Doc on Nov.27, 2001, under General News
No spoilers here, just a note that the just-aired Weakest Link special with actors from the various Star Trek series featured the biggest pot in the shows American history so far – $167,500. These guys were pretty smart. Also, it appears that Roxann Dawson (B’Elanna Torres, Star Trek: Voyager) took offense at a comment from Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher, Star Trek: The Next Generation), prompting an apology on his web site.

The Little Sci-Fi Forum that Could!
by Doc on Nov.26, 2001, under General News
PsiProne writes “I just wanted to plug my sci-fi message board. Hope no one minds! My message board is called The Sci-Fi Alliance. It has sci-fi topics ranging from Babylon 5 to X-Files. It also has a “HomeWorlds” section where members can create an area for themselves. One called Federation Outpost is basically a log done by one of the members based on fictional Star Trek missions they go on. It also has…” Read More for the full details of The Sci-Fi Alliance…
Headline gleanings
by Doc on Nov.20, 2001, under General News
Mostly scraped off of SCI FI Wire: Kate Mulgrew (Capt. Janeway) has confirmed she will appear in Star Trek: Nemesis (as an admiral in charge of Picard, no less!); Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is already filming; a sixth, unfinished Hitchhiker’s Trilogy book from the late Douglas Adams may get published; and Morgan and Wong are developing a “historical perspective of the future” for TV with Gentry Lee.
Little things…
by Doc on Nov.15, 2001, under General News
Some little newsbits not worthy of an entire article: SCI FI has announced that 5 B5 fans – one in each of the biggest markets – have been selected to turn their cars into rolling billboards for The Legend of the Rangers. They didn’t say who; Lucasfilm has announced that Episode II will open May 16th, a day earlier than expected in an attempt at an international release; fans have petition online to keep Galactica alive, and original star Richard Hatch has put his support behind DeSanto’s attempts to keep it going; and Star Trek: Nemesis is set to begin filming on November 19th.

Got a few extra thousand dollars? Want a piece of television history? On Dec. 12th, eBay will be hosting a live auction of original Star Trek items, put up by members of the original production crew. by Doc on Nov.06, 2001, under General News
Seems the lovable ogre has staying power. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the DVD/Video release of Shrek managed to bring in $110 million in three days of sales (breaking all video records for the past six years). Monsters, Inc. managed only a meager $62.6 million this weekend… :^)

A changed E.T. comes to DVD
by Doc on Nov.01, 2001, under General News
The Chicago Tribune (and scooped by Dark Horizons) reports that the DVD of E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial will contain an altered movie. Notably a line from the Halloween scene about appearing as a terrorist has been cut, and policemen who were holding rifles in the flying scene apparently will be holding cell phones (“Yeah chief, you’re not gonna believe this…”). Also, two previously deleted scenes have been restored including a bathtub scene with E.T. and Elliot with E.T cracking open a beer…
