Sporadic updates for the next week

by on Nov.30, 2010, under Sci-Fi Storm

I will have limited access to update the site itself for the next week, but I will have Twitter access – although I may not have much to post as I will be very busy with other business…however, you’ll probably get a few tweets and pics perhaps from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter again…although I expect it to be far more crowded this time, and I’ve heard that an open bar and dessert buffet is NOT standard. 🙁

So follow “scifistorm” on Twitter, or wait for the tweets to show up here (although I haven’t yet figured out why they seem to take an extra day to show up in some cases…)

Follow Sci-Fi Storm on Twitter and Facebook

by on Oct.03, 2010, under Sci-Fi Storm

Ok, I’ve got all the hookups seemingly working (I’m thinking of working a somewhat different interface for Facebook though), and Sci-Fi Storm is now on both Twitter and Facebook! Follow us @scifistorm on Twitter, and/or Facebook (I hope to shorten that URL later, but need followers). Our headlines with links will appear there, as well as other quips, notes, reminders, etc.

But there is a special bonus – I will be down at Universal Studios Orlando next Sunday and Monday for a SyFy press event, and I will be posting updates, pictures and maybe even a video or two via those channels (the pics and video may be Facebook only, not sure) of the panels, as well as the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and maybe a bit of the RIP Tour of Halloween Horror Nights! It all depends on the batteries…so follow us on both, and keep an eye out for special updates on Sunday and Monday!

The future of Sci-Fi Storm

by on Jul.15, 2010, under Sci-Fi Storm

As we are closing in the 10th year anniversary of my flight of fancy called Sci-Fi Storm, I’m still trying to figure out what to do…is there interest in a full blown forum site for Sci-Fi in general? If there is, I’d gladly foot the bill to get a decent such system like vBulletin vs. a free solution like phpBB – but it can only work if we can get good discussions going. Do we have the interest?

Lately there hasn’t been much other than regurgitated news, mainly because of time constraints and also that I haven’t exactly been getting much in the way of review material either…although I’ve been planning a Retro Review of [sfs=859]The Starlost[/sfs] for a while…

New feature – events calendar

by on Apr.12, 2010, under Sci-Fi Storm

I’ve finally got a working calendar on the site – something I wanted to have for a long time. On the right, you will see a list of upcoming events: movie releases, TV premieres, etc. At the top, you’ll see a new page called “events” that will give you a full calendar view. I will update the calendar as items come in, but it is difficult to go back and populate for items I’m not currently reporting on. So if there is a date/time you think appropriate, please go ahead and email them to the (temporary) address of events AT scifistorm.org for inclusion. If there is an appropriate link, include that as well. You may not get a response, but if its appropriate it will appear in the calendar.

Wanted: Guest authors, more traffic…

by on Feb.16, 2010, under Sci-Fi Storm

Yup, this is one of “those” posts…

Periodically, I look into the amount of work for this web site, and the amount of income it generates, and start to run through possibilities in my head. We’re closing in on 10 YEARS. That’s a long time for a web site without formal commercial support – but it also started at a time where I could not formally make money from it anyways. I solved that problem, but still, this is operates more like a hobby blog site than what I really envisioned – a news and discussion source. But what little income the site made over the years is WAY down now – no one is buying things from Amazon through our links, etc. Occasional free DVDs don’t pay bills.

Sneak peak of the new Sci-Fi Storm…

by on Sep.14, 2009, under Sci-Fi Storm

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain…but I’m REALLY close to finally beating something into a web site resembling what I envisage. It’s not 100% complete, but its close – old comments are not there yet, but all the articles as of yesterday are, and the “/news” will go away. Check it out (link redacted) and let me know likes, dislikes, etc. It’s amazing how fast you run out of room though…I liked the “pixel” wordpress theme because it was aurora-like…

Sci-Fi Storm on Vacation

by on Apr.18, 2009, under Sci-Fi Storm

I will be on vacation for the next week. I will have some Internet access but not an awful lot. If my loyal yet few readers can submit stories (HTML preferable – I’m working on that) on anything earth-shattering (or anything at all) it will be a lot quicker for me to post them…when I get back I am going to get back to the new software. Yes, really. I’d still like to write my own, but I recently took a good look at WordPress and it may do everything I want it to – including having guest editors…hint, hint…

Sci-Fi Storm closed for April Fools’ Day

by on Apr.01, 2009, under Fun Stuff, Sci-Fi Storm

Why bother posting anything today? Most of the news is so far-fetched, you can’t tell what is real and what isn’t. And frankly, if it isn’t about who forgot the lyrics on Idol, or who got eaten by a lion on Survivor this week, who’s been fired, or what happened on C.S.I. Everywhere, you wouldn’t care. Although at least that last crop of shows have toys that qualify them to be called Science Fiction (and I’m serious about that). So rather than posting something that will make you keep asking if it is real or not, I might as well just keep my mouth shut.

Tomorrow look for my new site, Reality Storm. Starring Stephen Baldwin.
