It has been officially announced that Star Wars: The Clone Wars will “wind down”, and is no longer being produced for Cartoon Network. However, it isn’t quite over yet. Here is the official announcement (from www.starwars.com):

As we enter into an exciting new era focused on the next Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming. We are exploring a whole new Star Wars series set in a time period previously untouched in Star Wars films or television programming. You can expect more details in the months to come.

As part of this shift, we have also made some key decisions affecting Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Detours.

After five highly successful and critically acclaimed seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we feel the time has come to wind down the series. While the studio is no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we’re continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen. As reported in January, Syfy has picked up Ron Moore’s new series Helix for a 13 episode order. Helix is Executive Produced by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), Lynda Obst (Sleepless in Seattle, Contact), Steven Maeda (Lost, CSI: Miami, The X-Files) and Cameron Porsandeh, who wrote the pilot, will serve as Co-Executive Producer. The series will be produced by Sony Pictures Television. Maeda is also tagged to be the showrunner.

Helix is an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind’s salvation or total annihilation.

“With its well-drawn characters, taut drama, and incredible production team, we couldn’t be more excited to see this intense thrill-ride of a series come to life,” said Mark Stern, President of Original Content, Syfy and Co-Head Original Content, Universal Cable Productions.

Helix is expected to begin production early in 2013 to debut later this year.

The Terminator‘s Linda Hamilton will be guest starring on the upcoming March 25th episode of Lost Girl.

In the episode titled “Delinquents”, Hamilton portrays Acacia, a tough, sexy and ruthless assassin who has enjoyed a storied and deadly career. Her arrival spells trouble for Bo (Anna Silk), Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) and Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried), who are undercover at an urban camp to catch a serial killer Fae preying on at-risk youth.

In the next Lost Girl, reality and fantasy converge as Bo confronts her ultimate challenge. Find out what happens Monday at 10/9c on Syfy.

Syfy has formally announced their Spring TV lineup, which includes the debut of new series Defiance, Deep South Paranormal and Weird of What?, plus the return of Warehouse 13 and Ghost Hunters. Read on for the complete release.

An added programming note – Syfy has decided to push off the final five episodes of Merlin and will instead air them on each Friday in May (May 3rd-31st). For at least the next two Fridays, the slot will be taken by repeats of Robot Combat League.

If you are at SXSW this weekend, you can get a look at that the town of Defiance looks like, chat with one of the stars – and even eat Defiance-style!

Syfy is taking over SXSW Interactive with the transmedia adventure of the Defiance Container Village (San Jacinto & 4th) – an immersive environment that recreates aspects of the futuristic world of Defiance in downtown Austin.

The Defiance Container Village will be live 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. from March 8 – 11. Some of the highlights of SXSW & the village include the following:

– Cast member Jesse Rath will live-tweet from @DefianceWorld. Tweet #DefianceSXSW to join the conversation & possibly win some swag, including a private happy hour in the village.

– SXSW GEEK Stage: The Making of Defiance, A Living Transmedia World

– A Need/Want Social Bar will allow visitors to express & share their personal needs & wants with an app that aggregates the collective results and posts them to the bar’s interactive wall & individual’s social feeds. Throughout the course of SXSW, Needs & Wants will be fulfilled for some lucky participants.

– Chi’Lantro, a Korean-BBQ food truck, will be dramatically transformed & serving its menu Defiance-style.

– One container in the village will be open for the public to relax, charge mobile devices & use the internet.

– Experience Defiance, play the game, mix with cast members, & party with DJs.
